At Steve Spangler Science it’s almost time for our favorite teacher training of the entire year - Science in the Rockies (http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/teacher_training/science-in-the-rockies/). It’s a three-day workshop held in the foothills just outside of Denver. The dates for this year’s workshop are July 8-10, 2009. The training typically attracts 150-200 elementary and middle school teachers who are looking for unique ways to make science more exciting and meaningful in their classrooms. At the core of the workshop is learning strategies and better practices for integrating science into an educator’s daily teaching routine.
Learn what happens when you put 150 teachers from 23 states and three countries in the same room for three days with a team of instructors who are over-the-top excited about teaching science... Enthusiasm for making science fun spreads like a virus. Concerns about test scores, curriculum changes or the ever-changing pressures of being a teacher seem to vanish. For three days, teachers put their worries aside and focus on ways to bring wonder, discovery and exploration back into their classrooms.
I would give ANYTHING to go to a Steve Spangler boot camp! Some of my friends have been, and to hear them talk, life in the middle school lab has never been the same since. My kids always get a Spangler science toy in their Christmas stockings and Easter baskets, but I've never been to his boot camp. It's not really feasible for us, anyway, but a girl can dream. Honestly, my Spangler stuff has saved my sanity in the school lab these last few weeks. Hallelujah, Steve Spangler! (No, I'm not entering the contest, but whoever wins it is in for a real treat!)
Hi Naomi - you don't have to be a teacher to attend. We have many homeschooling moms who also come.
Mara - No, there isn't a contest (although I will bounce that idea off our team) but it is an absolutely amazing training. I went for the first time last summer and was blown away with the energy, excitement and learning.
Ellen - We hope to see you someday at a Steve Spangler Boot Camp or Science in the Rockies. I will share your comments with Steve and our team. Have you looked at our free experiment library? There are hundreds of ideas to share with your class. http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiments/
