I know I do! My husband will say, "who are you talking about" I would love to meet some of my blogger/twitter friends in person. As a Mom blogging and twitter gives me a outlet.
Yep. I really only mention my online friends to my hubby and one other friend who kind-of "gets" it. I've given up on trying to explain it to my extended family.
Linda
Fortunately my husband had a period of heavy forum activity during the last presidential election so he totally understands my online friendships. My friends, not so much. "What do you do online all the time?" they ask, "but your don't really *know* any of these people" not really getting that I am talking to people on forums & making friends.
I don't even try to explain twitter to people anymore. It always comes across as stalkerish. "You follow people around the internet?"
I haven't explained twitter to my friends yet, just family, so you are just people I 'know' across the country....met online, etc. But yes, you would think the way I talk that I spend my life online...and that we were all friends IRL.

Lol, yup I talk about all my Mommy friends from all of my sites all of the time with my hubby all the time. He rolls his eyes at me a lot, but remembers just about everything I say and everyone I talk about, to my surprise!
My sister just gave me a hard time the other day! She asked me with so many kids how do you have time to use twitter or twitter moms. I told her that the kids are in school and the baby naps. I am also able to check my e-mail and jump on the computer when the kids are doing their homework, or reading and don't need my help! It only takes five seconds to tweet!

It seems like I'm always having to give a 5 minute class in social networking. I've given up with certain family members - they'll never get it. But even if I'm at my daughter's softball game, or a school event, I'll start saying things about Twitter, Blogging, etc, and get the strangest looks. I guess that's why I've ended up teaching classes on social networking!
I talk to my hubby about it a lot because he tweets, I tweet, he has forums he visits, I have sites like this one and The Posh Parent and a few others, he blogs, and I am going to attempt to blog (if blogger ever unlocks my dang empty blog! grrrrr). So, he totally gets the online friends thing.
My best friend I actually met on a forum and she gets that aspect of things, but I'm not sure she would understand the whole twitter thing.
As far as family, no way. They would absolutely not get it.
My Daughter & Brad both Tweet.
Brad also does all the graphics stuff for me. Cait & I have a couple of projects we work together online. We as a family also have had a few forums and are setting up a new one. So, my family is online blogging, tweeting....
As far as people that like live around me - I only talk to about 3 people that are not in online business. Even those 3 know to email or skype me. LOL!
Most of the others I talked to before have kinda fallen to the side. We just have nothing in common anymore. They work 9-5 and have kids in school & I work whenever online & homeschool.
I mention and talk about Twitter and Twittermoms a whole bunch to my husband. He says he gets it but I feel compelled to explain it a million different ways. I go on and on how it is marketing and social...then I'll call it social media marketing. Redundant, I know. I honesty want him to understand and that is worthwhile and very satisfying at the same time. He says he understands it but I'm not totally convinced.
Believe or not...my online friends are more a part of my life than my friends that live near me. I speak about all of you (LOL) daily and my children ask me...Mom, do you really know them?? hehehehe!!! I was just thinking about doing a blog about this specific subject.
