twitter moms: the influential moms network

I am a very open minded person and surely have my political views. I think what makes America great is the right to your beliefs and the right to express them. I don't really share my views and do not have a problem when others do. Here is what I do have a problem with, people who will Twitter and call anyone who supports the opposite party names, and they are not nice names. When calling names you are offending 50% of the population. I just recently stopped following a few people since because of my beliefs I must be a "Idiot" as this Twitter person said.

What are your thoughts about this kind of Twittering?

I have a similar problem. Their loss, is what I think (yeah, I'm totally full of myself..lol). Close-mindedness isn't attractive in any flavor, doncha know.

It depends on what else they twitter about if I find the other stuff useful I just ignore it. If that is all they post about I unfollow if I am interested In what others are saying I can always decide to read the elections part of twitter.

I for one will not post my views on politics on the internet anywhere. Since I never know what my future holds and If I change my views on something after more information is gathered I don't want my name stuck with a thought or anything like that in case for some reason I do decide to run for some sort of office. Not likely but still figure its better safe then sorry since none of us can see the future.

This type of twittering bothers me, also. When someone I'm following makes such a closeminded comment, I stop following. I'm fine with someone having a different opinion than mine, but don't demean me, or the candidate.

Yes, calling names is really childish! I love how this election has awoken many a lazy voter ~ including MYSELF~! :-)

One of the things I like about twitter is how you get an insight into how that person really is. When you only have 140 characters there is no time to sugar coat things so people say exactly what thy think. This allows me to really decide who I want to really pay attention to and who I don't. I still tend to follow people I may not agree with but won't interact with them is they are abusive. If they continue to be directly belligerent to me then I will stop following them. I am very much you live your life and I will live mine :)

I agree with you Kristen. I find it unfortunate that having an opinion opposite of someone else's warrants name calling. I am a centrist when it comes to politics and really find other people's thoughts an insights helpful. It just makes it much less enjoyable when petty insults get thrown into the mix. It feels like I am back in high school.

I SO agree. I've always hated debating politics and religion. My husband LOVES it, and so does my dad. I have opinions, and understand world events and politics but somehow it seems like things always end up personal. I respect what others feel and think, and expect them to do the same with me. Name calling and personal attacks are wrong. I love twitter, but some days I just need a break when it's all politics:)

I'm backing you 100%. Keep yourself in check when it comes to politics, money and religion. Name calling is just silly at this point. We are adults and we should respect the value of differences.

Well said Kristen!!! I respect everyone's points of views, but I hate ie when people choose to throw them in other people's faces! When it comes to public forums I try to stay neutral LOL and would expect people to stop following me if I was bad-mouthing people!!! Personally I can't wait till the election is over so we can get back to other topics :p

I, too, have recently stopped following people on Twitter due to the same thing. I don't appreciate being called names just because I don't have the same political views.

I am so glad that I have not had this problem on twitter probably because I don't have a large following nor am I following a lot of people...I must say that people do tend to take politics very personal and the politicians who were are voting for don't make it much better when they are slinging names back and forth about each other.
