The lost art of Christmas/Holiday cards
ok, maybe it's just me but every year i send out about 60 christmas card and get a handful back, what the heck is wrong with people,should i stop spending the postage?

I'm with you, I love sending out cards to family and friends, but every year, only receive about maybe 6 in return. I love to send and receive them, but had to stop a couple of years ago, because trying to keep in touch with everyone, when no one else seemed to return the courtesy and kindness. But I still stock up on great cards when they're on sale!!!

I think that people don't have the time or want the added expense anymore. Besides it was once a way of keeping in touch and caught up with each other and now with family websites, picture sharing via internet, and email...who needs to send cards!

I believe in Christmas/Holiday cards. I think they add to the joy of the season. My girlfriends and I have an annual card-signing party at one of our houses and that night, we show up with our address books, cards, and a bottle of wine - and start addressing our cards. It's a great tradition, but its also a moment to just stop and think - intimately - about the people who matter so much to you throughout the year. It's worth 42 cents for me to tell someone that they were worth a handwritten note and a trip to the post office. I don't tally how many I get back, I only know what it feels like to send them off - and that is priceless.

I love sending out traditional paper cards each year. Yes I send out way more than I receive and is a bit sad that our culture now thinks email is the solution to everything. I know those that get the cards (most of them anyways) really appreciate them. SO i'll keep on paying for postage and sending them out.
vegasmiss-I love the idea of making it a friend gathering to do them. THink I'll try that this year with the few that still send them out

I get a third of what I sent out back. It's very frustrating, but I love Christmas and love sending cards. I'd prefer a mailed card rather than an emailled greeting anyday. But even for those who don't send, they don't do the internet greetings either. Maybe I just send to a bunch of scrooges! :)

I send out cards and although I don't always get as many back as I give, it is still fun to do. It can be overwhelming to make sure I don't forget this one or that one because I'm not the most organized when it comes to my card list, but it is soooo much fun checking the mail and hearing back from the people I care about.
I have to agree about it being a lost art though. I remember as a child all the cards my mom used to get and watching how many she sent out as well. My stack is not nearly as thick as hers was.

No, you're right, and I'm one of those schmucks who never sends cards in return. Sorry about that!
HOWEVER -- seems like there's always a "however" with me today -- I'm going to do better this year. My guys are at the age where they LOVE getting real, honest to gosh mail. My mom sent Halloween cards last week and they were beside-themselves excited. We skipped back to the house singing Blues Clues "we just got a letter, we just got a letter."
So this year, we're gonna do it! We'll make them ourselves on the computer and it'll be even more fun for them.

I love receiving those cards in the mail too! This year I'm gonna make my own and get really creative, just hoping that I can bless someone, and not worry about what I get back.

I must be cheesy too, I make my christmas cards and tend to send photo cards printed at costco for easter, halloween, my baby's birthday and thanksgiving......I have the stamps to make great groundhog day cards, but somehow that holiday sneaks up and is gone before I ever address those envelopes, I do ecards for most belated bday cards and events that I am too close to getting to the post, but I hand make most birthday, anniversary, new baby cards....usually no two are alike, just whatever mood I am in when I set out to make it for that person or event, We tend to get maybe 1 card for every 10 we send out, no biggee I do it to send some love to that person, not to get anything in return!
