twitter moms: the influential moms network

I've just started blogging, and I'm not even sure where to start. Could any more experienced blogging moms share some advice? Thanks!

I've been blogging for several years. The most important thing to do is to start writing, and write on a regular schedule (3-5 times per week to start). You have to make it a habit before you can grow it into anything else.

It also helps to pick a subject you love, and one that will help you grow. Why will people read your blog? I have some great tips on http://howtoblogaboutyourbusiness.com/ that can also help you move in the right direction, especially if you want to turn it into a business.

I have been blogging for about a year now and really just now getting into a real routine with it. I have a blog for my book (which is more of my book's website than a real blog) as well as my regular blog (My Life - A Work In Progress) which is a business and personal blog (being a life coach and all). I have had better luck with Blogger than I have with WordPress. I have a family blog on WordPress and it is just a pain in the butt to add to and edit. Blogger seems so much easier with their "drag and drop" elements. I feel like I have to give up my first born to properly add a widget on WordPress...but I do like their templates better than blogger. I am about to start a new blog soon and I am shopping for a good platform. If I dont find one, I will go with Blogger. Those of you who swear by WP...please let me know what I am missing!!

hi, i just joined twitter moms and also launched a 'mama blog' about a month ago called "the modern mama's guide to the galaxy" (http://www.modernmama.org).

it is designed to be a forum for all mamas to connect, celebrate and vent - but most importantly, it is place to share stories and common interests about all things related to being a fabulous mama.

when you have time, between kids, work, laundry, house cleaning...the list goes on and on ;) - check it out and let me know what you think! i am always looking for insightful feedback and tips from other mamas - thanks!

Thoughts on blogging;
Write ... lots
Be passionate about your subject -- this helps you write and keep writing
Learn to write a good blog title -- helps draw in readers
Be authentic and natural -- "faking it" doesn't work for long
Have fun -- if it stops being fun, find out why or change the topic
See it as a learning experience -- don't shoot for perfect ... ain't gonna happen anyway!
See Problogger.net for newbie info both tech and on writing ... he's the go-to-guy for info
View it as a frontier to be explored, keep your mind open
Give and share with readers -- people value being valued, not talked down to
There are tons of blogs on blogging -- find one you like and "resonates" with you
If you want to write better -- there are blogs on blog writing that can help

Best wishes!

You make a good point. I have only used fairly basic functions, so I don't know much about adding widgets or going beyond the templates for page design. However, I had TERRIBLE customer service with Blogger, and I've read several similar complaints, so I was extrapolating from there, especially b/c my one experience with WordPress CS was beyond excellent.

I would just say post a lot of really great content and network. The content will bring in google and search engine traffic and the networking will bring in more traffic. That is of course if you are looking for traffic.

I know for me when I started blogging I wanted readers. ;)

First tip: write about what you love. Then, just write, write, write. Try to write enough so that you can get a feel for what you feel comfortable writing about.
Don't hit publish immediately upon finishing a post- always give yourself the time to go back and edit the next day.
Create a community, but don't put pressure on yourself. Do exactly what you are doing here- reach out to others!
Good luck and happy blogging.

I'm so glad you posted this question! I have been considering blogging since I started reading all the great mom blogs out there, but I feel very intimidated. So many here have given great advice so hopefully I'll be brave enough to start soon as well!

I consider myself new at this too, though I think I've been bloggin for a year now. Something I have just started doing is keeping a white board with categories on it. When I have an idea to blog, I write a little in one of my categories. It helps me focus and not lose some of those ideas I get during the day.

I'm also checking out weebly.. It seems to be a bit more dynamic than blogger (which I currently use)
