Are You Planning on Cutting Back on Your Holiday Shopping This Year Because of The Economy?

Hi Twittermoms,

Having an online giftstore, I am very nervous about sales this Holiday Season and I wanted to see if you were cutting back this year due to the economy. I am going to be scaling back myself and am planning on using a lot of my own gifts from my store and making salad dressings and giving my photos as gifts. What are your plans? Have they changed?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Feeling a little stressed. I usually go all out at holidays...but money is (kind of) tight and know I need to show moderation..just am not good at it. Really excited for the twittermoms catalog and hope to do most of my shopping there. Every time @SantaClaus25 posts how many days left...I get stressed.

Spending about the same as usual. Now that I have learned about Etsy stores, I hope to get some cool gifts from there. I have been supporting wahm home businesses for many years now so I hope to keep that up although this year it might be a time crunch since we go to Jamaica and don't have much time to order gifts to ship in time. Oh the dilemma LOL

Thanks for replying Angie, I love Etsy too!!! Great to know that you support wahm home businesses, me too, especially since alot of those businesses are my friends! Jamaica sounds pretty good to me right now, I am in desparate need of a vacation, we didn't get to take ours this summer. My husband ruptured his Achillese tendon, so have a great one!

Can't quite figure out why, but we may actually end up spending more this year. Seems like all my friends who never complained about money are complaining and us, who never really had much seem to be doing better? I don't get it. Maybe cause my business doesn't seem to be affected as much by the economy as others are. Anyway, I do plan to do the majority of my Christmas shopping on all the wonderful etsy and other sites I come across each day. I think it's a good idea for us all to support each other. This is the new way of supporting your "local" store.

Thanks for sharing Carolyn, these are great ideas. I think it is always better to give thoughtful gifts that are related to people's interests and needs.

I wouldn't say that we are cutting back, but the three oldest children are no longer living at home, so I usually only choose a few very special "just for them" gifts. Our two boys are married, so we usually buy for the grandchildren, and then purchase a "family" gift. We tend to save some money by doing things this way, plus they get something that they really want/need.

We let our youngest daughter choose a name from a "giving" tree and purchase gifts for children who might not receive anything at all - we had a lot of fun doing it last year. I even put a few gift baskets together for the families.

To be honest I normally do those day after sales and last minute ones but will probably just do most of my shopping online. Remember amazon has GOOD sales on toys and such on Fridays. Type in "Amazon friday sales" and you'll get some great bargains and if you get over $25 in stuff you get free shipping.
