Are You Planning on Cutting Back on Your Holiday Shopping This Year Because of The Economy?

  • Rating: 4.7 after 4 votes
Hi Twittermoms,

Having an online giftstore, I am very nervous about sales this Holiday Season and I wanted to see if you were cutting back this year due to the economy. I am going to be scaling back myself and am planning on using a lot of my own gifts from my store and making salad dressings and giving my photos as gifts. What are your plans? Have they changed?

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Maybe cutting back a little. But, I am planning on doing all my holiday shopping using the Twittermoms Holiday Catalog so that I can support all the moms here. It is more meaningful to buy from other moms and small businesses rather than going to the big department or chain stores.

Great question!

We are definitely cutting back this year. Partly due the economy (food and everything being so much more expensive) but also because we'll have 3 month old twins and a 15 month old. Along with the purchase of a new vehicle to fit all these little guys! :) Is formula a good present? lol
Luckily, they won't know we're not buying them crazy gifts since they're still small. We will be getting MUCH less for each other this year though. Last year we had a budget of $400 each and i'm sure it'll be down to $100 or less.
i'm still looking forward to being with family and having a fun holiday.

Im cutting back just due to car repairs that need to be done and other bills needing to be caught up. I am only buying for my boys and bf this year.

You know I always go overboard with the kiddo. However, when it comes to family this year, I will be doing more handmade items. I've actually got a favorites list on Etsy and will be purchasing as the holidays approach.

I am definitely cutting back unless a full time job that I applied for comes through.

Absolutely! We're going to be creative this year, too. I might make photo books or have the kids make grandparent gifts at a paint-your-own pottery store. I take it as an opportunity to spend money thoughtfully. We're doing all we can to support small businesses as well, since I fear they will take the first hit--Target and Toys R Us will do fine!

We are choosing to stay small and personal with our gifts. I gave my husband a kit to brew beer at home for his birthday this year (it turned out yummy!) and we are going to be giving personalized six-packs to some family members. Home brewed beer is inexpensive, but takes time to make.

We're scaling back this year. The kids are each getting one big gift because they also have a milestone birthday coming up, but everything else is going to be small. We're also planning gifts that we can enjoy as a family, such as more games since we're not going out as often.

I'm baking breads for the kids' various coaches and instructors. I'm also baking for extended family. I'm giving practical gifts to friends -- helping one design her website, providing occasional childcare for another, and so on.
