twitter moms: the influential moms network

I just joined and have not had the opportunity to go through this entire site, so being the shortcut lover that I am, I thought I'd just shout...

Are there any TwitterMoms here that are homeschooling? Are any of you in San Diego? Are any of you using k12 curriculum? This is our second year and we are loving it... but it sure would be nice to have some people to twitter to or meet at the beach.

Hope there's another one of us out there... well, in here, anyway... :)

I'm homeschooling! This is my 6th year and I'm currently homeschooling 3 of my 4 kiddos. We use Alpha Omega Switched on Schoolhouse and Lifepac for our curriculum.

And I'd be more than willing to come play at the beach with you if you want to buy me a plane ticket! Unfortunately, Illinois doesn't have too many beaches you can (or would want to) swim in.

I'd love to go to the beach ... it'd be a bit of a hike from Michigan though!

We are just starting our 19th year homeschooling. We use a mishmash of curriculum, usually adding something new every year!

I have a 7th, 8th and 12 grader this year. :o)

I don't live in California, but I do homeschool and I do use k12 for part of our curriculum! We used k12 exclusively last year through a VA, but then we moved this summer. So since I am paying for everything, we are now approaching school with an eclectic mix that includes K12. We are doing 6th grade this year. :)

I homeschool! I live in Central California, but I don't use K12 ;)

I just started a Homeschool Twitter Moms group, so check us out!

Hi everyone! Glad you birds of a feather have found each other. Spookygirl started a group for homeschooling moms who twitter and blog -- let's move the discussion over there. I'll probably close down this thread down in a day or so, since the Groups are a better way for people with similar interests to communicate (and for new folks who share that interest to discover new friends).

Great discussion topic, Sugar! Thanks for posting it -- see what you've started? You've got a whole group now!! Enjoy.

I'm afraid I'm not in your area, but I am definitely looking into homeschooling when/if our family ever makes the permanent move back to the states. I'd love to follow you guys around for the tips and hints on how to make such a decision (and make it work!). I hope you're able to find some homeschooling friends in your neck of the woods, good luck!

I don't homeschool, my 5 year old just started public school, but if you just read a couple of posts about the crap we've encountered already, you would understand why I am so interested in this, but I live in Alabama...and I have a blog on education - all facets of education, not just homeschool but public school, private school, religious schools, policemen as educators, parents as educators, siblings as educators...you get the point.... Homework was the big scale tipper for me. I have two older children and remember how frustrating the evenings were. In between forcing them to sit for dinner or chasing them down from playing with friends, I had to put my Psychic hat on and try to figure out what the teacher was trying to teach. The hours I spent with the kids doing homework equal the amount of time I spend doing lessons with my little ones. Plus, we get to do cool stuff like this now: http://twurl.nl/t8s5po

Wow! I know some junior high homeschool kids. Really cool kids. They seem to have the same attitudes as regular pre-teens, but without the bite of being in the ugliness of the nastiness of campus life. Good for you and your daughter!
