How much does the tooth fairy leave your children?

My daughter lost another tooth yesterday. The tooth fairy made a visit last night and left her $5.00. When I was a kid I got a quarter for my teeth. What do your children get from the tooth fairy? Is $5.00 the average?

We leave them $5 but if that silly "fairy" forgets, as usual, then a dollar extra is to be added up for each day . . . pre-molars and molars are $8 unless the dentist has to take a piece out, then the fairy won't exchange them at all. (The fairy don't like how dentists smell).

I feel better about giving him $1, now that I see how many other people give $1. I keep $1 on hand at all times just in case. What's funny is that he's actually lost two of the four teeth that fell out. One fell out at school - he was so excited he showed it to his friends on the bus and the next thing you know, it's gone. The other fell out and ended up in his lunch at school...which got tossed before he realized he'd lost it. Oh well. :)

Maybe I should give my son more... He didn't start losing teeth till he was 7. I give him a $1 but I have forgotten twice.. luckily the first time his room was a mess and I told him she must have been to scared to go in there... the second time I forgot we had moved so I told him she must have forgotten we have moved... I always write him little notes from her and leave them with the money in funky handwriting... and then pretend it is really hard to read. He now forgets to check to see if he has money waiting... *giggles*

We do 50cents per tooth. I use pearl colored puff paint to draw a little molar on each quarter, then hit them with a bit of hairspray and some glitter. We're pretty poor around here and with 5 kids, I didn't want to get stuck not being able to do tooth fairy stuff. The kids love their tooth fairy quarters.

We did $20 for the first tooth and now we do $5 per tooth.

Our kids get a gold dollar coin most of the time. Sometimes they get random foreign coins if the tooth fairy can't remember where she put the stash of gold dollar coins.

gold dollar coins, or sometimes $2 bills for the molars - they are really painful!

My plan was to give $1 and that's what I did for my son for the first few teeth. Then my step son lost his first tooth (same age but physically delayed) and his mom gave him $20 since it happened at her house (we have custody but she has visitation).

Having to deal with step parents that won't abide by your wishes is REALLY frustrating.

My son lost a tooth last night. Ours varies from 3-$5. Depends on what we have on hand. lol I try to stick with $4 as much as possible because I think that is what our daughter usually got.

Suzie, I'm ROFL cause that is how ours got so high as well. Daughter sprung a tooth on us and we had nothing but a $5. Difficult to go down once you've gotten $5 for a few times. RATS! lol

We started at $5 and now my daughter expects it every time.. I'm wishing we'd started with a $1 bill though :)

We always did $5 for the first tooth, because it was special, and then $1 for each tooth after that.

wow...my kids would pull their own teeth for $5! My older ones (back in the 90's) got a quarter or 50cent. The youngest who is 9, gets a buck. Even when the dentist pulled them, but I'm thinking I had to take him to Walmart for that one too, he was so mad!
