What do you do when u feel down?

  • Rating: 5 after 1 vote
Eat chocolate? Scream at someone? Cry?

I don't know which would help me right now. I feel so bad because my mother needs me and I am thousands of miles away and can't do nothing about her suffering. That is only the top of the iceberg, then there's more...

What do you do when you are down?

I drive. Driving helps me probably more than anything else. Alone. You crank your favorite tunes, you give everything in your head permission to come out and fight with itself because you have nothing else to focus on in that moment.

For me this works when I am down I listen to music I start with the music that mirrors my mood then I gradually change the music to change my mood until I am happy and rearing to go. If that doesn't work I start to create while listening to music. If that doesn't work I put in a funny movie I love laughter really is the best medicine! :)

I drink more mangosteen ,my mother is 84 years young and lives 100 miles a way is all but I only get to see her 1 a month I keep in touch on the phone. She had arthritis very bad and vertigo and in and out of the hospital until I got her on mangosteen everyday, now she is up walking and shopping and even took a vacation to branson with her friend. Sure a relief off my shoulders.

do all the above eat chocolate, scream and cry...then go to God and whisper please help me. You are not alone. I have learned the power of prayer. My mother is 1,000 miles away and she isn't feeling well. I am at complete peace I know that the Lord is taking care of her...why? because I know the Lord. Now I am not saying it is that simple...but what I am saying is this...The best way to help her is to pray and know that God is good and He will have someone come into her life to help her as you continue to pray.

For yourself learn to pray ...read the bible and get close to Him...I have had a lot of things happen in my life...but
when it got to desparation stage...the only thing that ever really pulled me out was God. If you take one step he'll take two. ...
Trust me on this...things can begin to turn around very very quickly when we start to get serious with Jesus.

Help other people. Help someone local that you can help since hopefully there is someone far away helping your mom. Also figure out what you can do for her. Listen to her on the phone, send her a care package, call other members of her social circle whereever she is and ask for help.

Hugs. I'll send you and your mom some prayers Linda. My mom had an eye crisis last winter and even though she lives close by it was a difficult time. It is hard to give 100% support when you are a mom.

I love to listen to music, read my bible or workout. If I'm feeling sick I love cuddling with my two German Shepherds.

I stop & think if it could be hormones...is my period due? It is usually the cause & so I remind myself that it will pass & try to keep my head straight. I find distraction is good. Listening to happy music, watch a comedy, work w/my hands, or get together w/people that I find upbeat. I also avoid irritants, like shopping at Wal-mart & Rush-hour traffic! If all that fails...a real good drunk & hang-over makes me forget my rude spell for a short time! ;-)

But, in your case it is not in your control & you need to be able to forgive yourself & know that if you could control the situation you would be there w/your mother. Leave it up to God & don't be so hard on yourself. I always like to send flowers, when I can't be there in person.

Watch movies that make me laugh.
Listen to Jimmy Buffett music, sometimes Jackson Browne. Just something about the rhythm and the easy going nature of the music is like a mood elevator for me.
I go see the grandkids--who can be down around the activities and imagination of a 3 year old?

I listen to Amy Grant, the songs she published when she was just starting out. El Shaddai, Mountain Top, In a Little While, always makes me feel better. Of course everyone also knows when they hear those songs that I'm trying to lift up my spirit and they try to leave me alone to work it through. If that doesn't work I remember the Serenity Prayer and start praying.
