Rossy

ridiculous return policy

  • Rating: No Rating
So I registered at Babies r Us for my daughter. I had her is March and received a gift soon after from a co-worker who supplied a gift receipt (thank you). It was a doorway jumper for 4 months+. At about 6 months i took it out because I had registered for it to use at grandmas and she was just now staying at grandma's recently. We pull it out and realize that it will not work on the door jam. We pack it back up and take it to Babies r Us with gift receipt to then find out that you MUST return within 90 of your expectant due date or else your registry is considered inactive and you can no longer make returns not even for store credit.
I then explained that this item was for a baby 4months+ 4 months after my due date is clearly more then 90 days and I cannot know for sure if it works before she is old enough to use an item.... So basically it sucks to be me, I cannot return for even store credit and I will never again register for anything I will not immediately use..... anyone have this problem or advice?

I'm so sorry they treated you that way. I hate to go to Toys R Us for that reason. The boys (our 9 year old twins) got something, I can't remember what though, last year for their birthday, the mom bought both boys the same thing. Well, they share most of their toys so they asked if we could return it. I called Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, noone even carried it. I sighed and called Toys R Us...they wouldn't even give the boys store credit without a receipt! I explained how it was a birthday gift for twins, got 2 of the same thing, noone else carried it, etc... but they wouldn't budge. I won't buy from there unless I have NO choice!

I've never heard that from BrU! That's ridiculous! When I registered with them they were told me that your registry will remain active for up to a year after your due date for things such as food, clothes or other things that they use as not just newly born.

I'm sorry they treated you this way. It sounds to me like they just plain didn't want to deal with your bringing the stuff back, because they SHOULD have let you return it. Is there another BrU somewhere around you that you could try returning it to there??

If I were you I would go check their return policy on their website and then print out the info you need and demand an exchange. As Cara said your registry is active for a YEAR so the person that attended you didn't know what was she/he talking about. Good luck!

yeah, they told me the same thing about it being active for a year, so what I found is that it is still there, but 90 after the last transaction on it, it basically is frozen. So I went online accessed my registry and made some changes. I'm going to go back and see if I can beat their system. If not, I'll speak to a manager. Thanks ladies!

so, i went back. I was able to return it, but only with my once a year return without a receipt policy. Apparently, your gift registry expires after 90 of your baby's birth.... really stupid, next baby I'll be extremely selective of what i register for.... please help me pass along this info to other women.
As much as I can't stand their policies, I can't not shop there. They have the best prices on a lot of things and are so dang convenient for all your babies needs. grrr. I did get a great deal today on a Britax car seat... so I guess they are ok for now...
