Getting organized for Thanksgiving and Christmas

The time is upon us...almost November and time to think about having a FUN and STRESS FREE holiday season. Just wanted to hear how some of you moms are getting things lined up for this busy time of the year. Are there specific things that you struggle with? Are there areas that are more difficult than others? Please share any Ideas/strategies that have helped make the holidays more fun and enjoyable for you and your families. Thanks:)

I should also mention that I have a 3-ring binder that I use as my holiday planner. I keep my card lists, gift lists, wish lists, holiday party planning pages, calendars, holiday meal planning pages, recipes, and so much more in them. ListPlanIt.com has all of these pages available to members so you can just print them out, hole punch them, and stick them in your binder for handy reference and a wonderful record to make next year's planning even easier!

Since we have a little one, we usually split holidays with parents. Hubby's parents won't be around for Thanksgiving, so we will be with my family. It was already pre-planned back in August for a trip to Missouri to visit hubby's aunt and uncle for Christmas, so I really don't get a say-so in that one and will have to go. Then we are just planning my family's Christmas around that, so we will have another Christmas at New Year's when we get back.
That way at least we don't have to be the ones with the majority of the planning.
Once we get a house, I think we will start having a few family holidays at our home so that there won't be AS MUCH travelling.

I think one of the most useful tips is to focus on what is important to you and your family during the holidays. It's so easy to get caught up with all the details. Not exactly an organizing tip, but I think keeping your goal in mind helps to put everything else into perspective.

We live in CT and both of our extended families are in PA. So, I send an email to everyone letting them know our plans way ahead of time. It's just so hard to get everyone in for a visit, so it really makes things a lot easier on us and everyone else and it gives us time to solidify plans ahead of time.
