Suggestions for Ning

  • Rating: 4.5 after 3 votes
I'm meeting with the Ning executives tomorrow for an all-day meeting, and I wanted to get suggestions from everyone here on how they can improve the Ning platform (which is what this site is built on). The idea is to give them feedback they can use in order to make communities like Twittermoms better for their members.

What features would you like to see enhanced or added?

What bugs you most about the way this site is set up?

What would make this community more useful, fun, or engaging?

Are there features missing here that you like on other social networking sites?

Any and all feedback is welcome. I'll relay the feedback in real time!

I can't log into twitter from here...I have to open a new tab and log-in, then I am able to open it from there. Other than that...I have no complaints...I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

I would love to have a status bar more like facebook. It even could be the most recent twitter. I have added the application that ning provides but it is very cumbersome. One of the things that facebook does brilliantly is to broadcast the status of friends to your home page. This creates a reason to visit other people and encourages engagement.

Adding friends is still takes a lot of loading time.

Some of my friends from other ning groups showed up in my Twittermoms friends when I joined, but not all of them even though they are members here. I can't figure out why.

I wish there was a way that identified whether someone was your friend when you looked at the member pages. I have on several occasions clicked to add someone and found out they were already my friend.

I also would love to have some sort of way to identify people by group they have joined. Like a blue dot next to everyone who joined the blogging group, etc. It would be easier to identify people that I have things in common with.

The site is awesome. These are picky comments! Thanks for all your hard work.

Can I organize my friends? Not necessarily a top 8 but a way to organize them so I can easily find the ones I talk most to?

I have absolutely loved this site with no complaints!

I am still getting a few "spammy" emails to my direct email from some of the groups that are loading up my email inbox, though.

More engaging, perhaps more social interactions between members other than comments? Status updates like MySpace (kind of like Twitter, but actually ON our profile pages)

Another thing I couldn't edit into my post was that it takes some pages a long time to complete loading. I am not sure if it is my computer or not, but I have had the same delays on two different computers. It's not a "problem" persay, just a little irksome when I'm trying to do something faster than the page can load lol.

I here you on that one! These are great requests. I'm so excited to give feedback.

I'll blame my husband for that one. He "hacked" that solution together. Sorry it's not working for you! Glad you're loving it here, we love having you here! Thanks so much for making this place FUN!

It would help if the discussion section were broken down by subject. Right now, wading through the list to see what I want to read is time consuming (and often results in me just giving up on it).

I'd love to be able to manage ALL my Ning stuff from one place. I'd like to make my page look the same from network to network so I don't have to go in and edit each one (and yeah, there are a lot) every time I want to make a change.

Other than that, I'm just having trouble grasping Ning. It's too much like myspace for me.

I'm new here but for what I've seen so far I would like to be able to update my status the way we do on Facebook and would also like to post pictures on the groups I belong too.

I wish there was a way to send a message to my "friends" all at one time instead of individually.

Agreed on all fronts, especially the Myspace comparison... Will let them know, thanks!

I agree also with breaking the forums into categories. There is a way also that you can view "all active posts" for the current day as well to keep up with what is current in all categories so we're not always jumping around. :)
