twitter moms: the influential moms network

My son has ADHD and ODD. They even said he could have bipolar. But how could they know that at his age? He's almost 5 and they told me that when he was 3. He's taking 3 different meds right now.
He's very hard to handle and lovse to tell me no and doesn't always listen to me, even when he's on meds. I just hope he changes for the best as he gets older. He's a mommas boy.

Do any other mother's have kids with ADHD or ODD?

I have two kids with similar issues. they were diagnosed at the ages of 5 and 6. It is a very hard thing to deal with. I do want you to know your not alone. We do have a group for moms with these special kids. http://www.twittermoms.com/group/momsofspecialneedskids

I'm not familiar with ODD, my son has ADD, m god-daughter has ADHD & my daughter was just diagnosed as bipolar, but I'm pretty sure she's had it for about 9 years.

Here is a link to a site that can tell you more about ODD.

My son was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD at age 4. Initially, we also thought he had ODD. Once he was on a SUCCESSFUL medication regimen, all the ODD symptoms went away. In retrospect, I really believe that all the defiant behavior was his way of attempting to put some control on what, to him, was an out of control world. Things weren't any easier given his superior cognitive intellect (he could tell you about "exoskeletons" in detail at age 5).

There is no single answer that works for every child. Don't be afraid to push for a different medication if things don't seem to be working. You'll know when they are, because your child will change like magic.

Things do get better as the child gets older, but you will always have more challenges than average. We come up with a new "strategy" about every 2 weeks.

Hang in there...feel free to drop me a line if you need to vent.
