When you're going insane from the everyday activities involved in being a mom, how do you escape?
If I can actually get away, I usually grab a coffee with my sisters or roam the aisles of Target or Marshall's without having to push a cart!
If I can't get away, I know Lovely Listing always makes me laugh or I tell everyone I have to go potty and just sit in there in silence by myself for one peaceful minute.
You?
My mother ALWAYS makes things better. But she is SO FAR away. I try to see my friend Jamie. She's SO funny and easy to talk to. And cool too. If she's out or busy, I make a cosmopolitan. I've got pretty good at it. If it's before noon, I twitter. BTW you can read Jamie's stuff at http://www.travelsavvymom.com/ or follow her on twitter http://twitter.com/TravelSavvyMom
Escape? What is that? The only way I've found lately to get some "me" time is to get up 30 minutes before I need to get the kids started and take a bath while everyone is still sleeping. It works about 3 days out of the week - but so worth it.
A couple of hours in the library is a wonderful escape. We live in the country and a long walk can be great too. In the winter, I love to wander the mall peoplewatching.
At home, it is in my bedroom with the door shut to read, or on the computer, with headphones on and loud music playing! Not working, but just doing whatever I want.
LOL! I remember when going to the bathroom by myself and in peace felt like a spa weekend!
Now that my kids are older, I get much more freedom and when I need to escape I usually head for the local bookstore with a cup of coffee. My iPod provides me with escape wherever I go. Anywhere with water is nice if I have the time to get there. The beach, a lake, a river...whatever.
