twitter moms: the influential moms network

When you're going insane from the everyday activities involved in being a mom, how do you escape?
If I can actually get away, I usually grab a coffee with my sisters or roam the aisles of Target or Marshall's without having to push a cart!
If I can't get away, I know Lovely Listing always makes me laugh or I tell everyone I have to go potty and just sit in there in silence by myself for one peaceful minute.
You?

Since I don't have little kids hanging out at the Julie Household on a regular basis anymore, I take every chance I get (as soon as the kids leave for school) to go to the city (Seattle..30 miles south) and try something I have never tried. I even do touristy things all by myself! And then I treat myself to a good cup of coffee and a trip to Sephora..even if I don't buy anything, I just love going there :)

we are really fortunate since every single grandparent lives with in 20 minutes! so we get to have time to ourselves regularly but there are days where i am completely overwhelmed. i usually escape and tan for 20 minutes. 20 minutes of total silence is amazing. i really come back refreshed and recharged.

My escape happend 5 days a week. I workout at the gym everyday after dropping the kids at school for an hour and a half to two hours. It is the best way to start my day. On days when the stress of life gets overwhelming, I walk the neighborhood with a girlfriend at night (usually 3 days a week) after the kids are in bed and the hubby is home. There is nothing better for relieving stress for me than working out!! I LOVE IT!!

I find that my kids did not enjoy kids club (babysitting at the gym) when they were younger and that they tried to cry when we went. I explained to them that I do plenty for them that I don't enjoy and have for years and all I ask in return is to behave when I need them to. They eventually started to understand. I know 11 months is young to reason with, but stand firm!! They will live through the babysitting!!! =) Good luck!! Remember Legally Blonde..."She couldn't have killed her husband. She exercises....exercise produces endophins...endorphins make you happy and happy people don't kill their husbands." Whoever wrote for Resee Witherspoon's character was right on...exercise makes you HAPPY!!! Get to it!!! =)

I love to go to the movies alone. I also enjoy going to Target or looking at the home deco stuff at Ross or Home Goods. If I'm home I'll go get in the tub or read a book.

I take local field trips to a museum or a visually stimulating area of the city. I used to shop but now I play on the computer :)

If I'm at home I usually just go to the bedroom and read but it's rare that I'm able to do that when DD is up it's usually after she's in bed... but if i'm going out the book store to buy a coffee and browse I can be lost in there for hours! :)

I love to go to the movies alone as well. I normally go to the matinee so people won't think I am super weird but if I really need the break I don't care what anyone thinks I just go. It is the best.

Bubble baths and books! I try to take a bubble bath at least once a week, it's my alone time!

go into my studio......although that doesn't always work as my son usually finds his way in to "help" me or work on his own crafts.

sometimes I will just go lie down in my bed - that usually gives me 15 minutes of peace and quiet.

We haven't been away from the kids since 2005!! If I were to just disappear, I'm sure there would be bickering about something and I would never get "me time". If I need to escape from being Mommy, I say, "Daddy, it's your turn." He's usually happy to take over. If my husband is not at home, I have our three children, 6, 10, and 11, do something together like pass a book each reading a page, or prepare a salad for dinner & set the table, or pull weeds from the yard. Thankfully they love to help, and I can breathe during the time they're kept busy!
