At first I looked for people near me, or home-schooled and had kids! Now I just like to follow people who follow me back! I have met some really nice and interesting people! Love just sitting at the computer chatting it up with people from all over! :)
Well, the first thing is making sure they aren't spam-bots and then I usually see if I'm familiar with their blog. I often wonder how they found me.
I'll go check out their blog and the scroll through their updates. Although, that kinda makes me feel a bit nosey. But if I think I have anything interesting/worthwhile to add to the conversation, I'll follow.
I check to make sure they are real people and not just going to shoot me links all day, I check a page or so to see if they have anything to say that interests me.
There are a Few for the pure fact they are on top of the world of technology and things and I like to know when they post in their blogs or find something new like Leo Laporte, And a few marketers who Only shoot off urls and things But I knew that going in and its like Leo new things that are coming out new things they have found and things that I may not have found any other way.
I just started twitting. I'm with the "those who follow me, I follow" camp. I would also follow someone who shares similar interests with me. In other words, if you are a Twilight freak, a home schooling mom, or an avid stamping extraordinaire (ok, just LIKE it)...then I'll follow.
I look at their following to followers ratio. If it's close to being even, I will follow. I know it's an ego thing, but mine is huge and I must respect that. HAH! I will not be a hanger on to someone with thousands of followers who doesn't care enough to follow back. I always say if you want to keep track of your buddies, then create a separate account just to follow them. Too much work? Bite me. Oh I'm a bit of a Twit Bitch.
I often like to find CEOs, entrepreneurs or PR people and see if they'll follow me back. They probably get the notification and go, "HUH? What the hell is a Mutha Mae?" Some have actually followed back and I've formed relationships with them and opportunities have come about as a result.
I also like drag queens and party girls. Their tweets can be so scandalous and takes me completely out of my everyday world.
My heart belongs to the moms. They get me, I get them. They aren't bothered by my mom talk. I've been dropped by people who couldn't be bothered with the mom talk before. Their loss.
