What makes you come back to a Social Network and what makes you never return?

It seems like social networks are popping up every day. So what brings you back? Here is what brings me back:

Active networks
Active forum discussions
Friendly members, it is nice to receive and send welcome messages
Involvement from the owner of the network (Megan we love you!)

What keeps me coming back:

Friendly people
Threads that I post, and actually receive responses
People who are not here just to promote themselves, but to actually engage in conversations

What keeps me away:
Posting something, and receiving absolutely no response. If this happens two or three times, I'm outta there!
Spam
Cliques

I agree about the owner involvement. The guidance and organization here are excellent.

I agree when you post and no one responds it just feels bad! I don't like cliques either.

What brings me back is the relationship I have with members. I like activity and discussions that I can related to. I like the opportunity to win stuff too!

What makes me never return? Lack of activity by the owner or groups that I joined. They begin and you sign up and then they die off. It's boring and then there's no point in coming back or keeping up. Also, too many rules! You can't email this person or that person (non spam stuff) or you can't post this here or there you can only post it in this discussion, etc. Seems like there would be some common sense going on. Call me crazy!

the problem is that these social networks are very "flavor of the month"-ish....there has to be something to differenciate one to make it more appealing than the others. One way is def the relationships between members...Another is functionality imo.

I agree totally I leave if no one comments on my page and the discussions don't update daily.

I keep coming back if the network is active. Lots of activity. Responses to questions asked. Friendly. If they get snarky or spammy I'm so out of there.

snarky is my new favorite word!

I have joined some that don't even welcome you, not even the owner of the site. I wish I had time to visit every members site!

friendly people, a feeling of being welcomed, discussions I can relate to, groups that actually talk about the topic - all things I like
cliques, limited response to posts and stagnation - all things I dislike

So far (on day 1 of this site) it's been all friendly and welcoming people which is pretty cool!
