When Was The Last Time You Put Yourself First?

  • Rating: No Rating
Life can be busy, crazy and hectic. As mothers we often put others needs first over our own. This can leave us feeling drained, exhausted and depleted.

Is there anything that you do on a daily basis that nurtures your own needs?

Nurture my own needs? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that. As I'm writing this my two kids are jumping all over me demanding attention. But seriously, I do religiously workout at least three times a week. It's my time to focus on me and reduce stress. It helps tremendously.

Can't wait to hear others responses so I can do more...thank you for starting this topic. it's much needed!

Me time? LOL! With 4 blogs, contributor to 3 websites, a ranch to maintain, 3 kids, a hubby, and a FIL.....need I say more?

I will be having some me time soon though! I'm reviewing the movie "The Women" and was sent two tickets so I'm taking my sister-in-law:)

Other than that, I don't...my shower is my savior for 20..well, maybe 30 minutes!

Gosh, I'm just exhausted reading about your busy life. Enjoy your showers and fill them with lots of treats.

After dinner DH is the 'primary parent' in our house. This gives me an hour and a half or so every evening to myself. I usually go in the bedroom and read. Sometimes I get online & read blogs. Sometimes I join DH & the kids. He also takes them every Sunday in to town for lunch and a trip to Lowes or the hardware store. I usually use the time to scrap.

Ha! :-) Everyday? Not a chance. . .but that is okay with me. Going thru fertility to have my daughter, this is totally the place I want to be. . .even if its not much sleep! :-) But I do say, I try to make it "all about me" on my birthday and Mother's Day. . .well, is it still all about me if Allie (my daughter) opens up MY presents on my bday??? :-)

Hi Meryl,

I understand totally. My youngest was premature and I breastfed every 2 hours for well over a year. I did however need little treats every now and then, back then, simply to reward myself that I was doing a great job as a mom.

Yes, I blog and that is nurturing my own need. I pick my music rock out and just put my thoughts out there. I'm constantly learning about something each day just by twittering and blogging and running my own business. That feeds my need to learn. I nurture my brain and my spirit. I'm working on the body part after I get the ok from the Dr.

I have trouble sleeping and lately it almost seems like a blessing (even though the dark circles under my eyes keep getting darker) but its when there is quiet and I have my coffee and catch up on the blogging and groups and all that good stuff. When I have a hectic day everything is thrown off It is an everyday thing now and the only time I put me first.

This is a sore spot for me right now. It's been a SUPER stressful month. My DH had surgery that left him temporarily blind, so I was caring for our kids, him, and the house - all by myself. Now of course, I do it with a loving heart b/c I do love him and I know it's not his fault. But it's stressful and wearing nonetheless, kwim?

Well, he's doing better now (almost ready to return to work), and I decided to treat myself to a VERY rare trip to a real salon (seriously, this happens once every 3 or for years) for a cut AND a color. I was going for a pretty drastic color change, too, because I felt the need to do something dramatic. I have been looking forward to this for two weeks now.

Unfortuantely, Friday, we found out that DH needs new glasses because the surgery changed his vision. There's simply NO WAY we can afford both right now. Obviously, his glasses are the priority. And I don't begrudge him that; again, I know it's not his fault. But that doesn't mean that having to cancel the appt didn't crush me anyway. :( I was SOSOSOSO looking forward to doing something totally pampering and just for me.

Anywho, I will get to go next month, and I'm still looking forward to it. Because it is truly rare that I do much of anything pampering for myself. As a mostly SAHM for the last nearly 6 years, we've not had money for me to get pampered very often.

I will say, though, that I do MAKE time for the computer and for books. Those are the things I do entirely for myself, and they are very important to me. But do they pamper me? Ummmm, no.

One day, I'm going to be wealthy and am going to get manis and pedis and hair cuts and color and massages and all that fun stuff regularly. :p
