My kids' friends are on Twitter...weird? creepy?

My kids (who are teens) think I'm totally lame for being on twitter (like I care). But they tell me they have high school friends on twitter too! And they've told them I'm there also, though not by @name...still, I want to run and hide...takes all the fun out of complaining about those snarky kids if I'm found out!

How would you feel, or have you run into this? It's not like facebook where you have to be a friend to see what is said...no privacy. Even if they don't follow you, they can read what you write! ps. I have no idea who they @are and don't want to!!

My 14 yo DD calls it "stalking" when she sees me on twitter. She has no interest in it. Her older brothers are completely oblivious to it as best as I can tell.

I did read something recently...a tweet... that a college student said twitter is for old people (or something like that). Ha-ha

This conversation is very interesting to me. I write a lot of posts for my teen advice blog http://www.flippingburgersandbeyond.blogspot.com about being careful of what you do on Facebook. Now I have to think about warnings for Twitter.

At least Twitter doesn't allow additional photos being posted, which is where lots of teens get in trouble (posting photos of themselves drunk or doing stupid things). Still, if you have teens on Twitter, I would caution them to think about what they write in their 140 characters. They don't want something to come back and bite them.

thanks for your nice comments....actually though with twitpic photos can be easily posted to an account they set up, taken from a cell of phone from what I understand. And you can tweet your flickr account photos as well. Just something else for parents to be aware of!

I know how you feel. But maybe they will never run into you on the site! You should be able to voice your thoughts wherever you feel comfortable doing so.
