Lately, my husband and I have been taking some risks with this category and finding some real gems. Here are the ones I can remember right now that are cheap ($10-and-under) but GOOD.

Yellow Tail Shiraz
Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages
Les Jamelles Merlot
Fat Bastard Shiraz
Les Bicyclettes Merlot

I think Barefoot's Zin is the best, too. Their Chardonnay isn't too bad, either.

I was like you, thought I should try Fat Bastard because of the name. We weren't very impressed with it. I do like the Little Penguin wines that you listed.

Yes, Barefoot Chardonnay and another wine that I use to get at Trader Joe's, but haven't seen in months is Santa Barbara Landing Chardonnay. I really like that one.

Love most of the Lindeman's wine choices. They also have a South African wine out that is very tasty as well.

Funky Llama Shiraz is pretty good.
Yellow Tail (any variety)

The label on these is really cute! My brother gave me a bottle of their Chardonnay at my baby shower for me to have after the birth of course! I'm looking forward to trying it and now I'll try their Zin too. Thanks!

Just enjoyed a wine we haven't had in awhile - Frontier Red. The name comes from Davy Crockett because the guy who produces it is Fess Parker. I found it in Spokane, Wa. several years ago at a quaint, small grocery store. The store is in an old gas station.

Frontier Red is less than $10 and I found it at World Market. It has a smooth, deep flavor.

House Jam is a good, sweet, slightly sparkling red wine. I only like sweet reds, and love this one. It is about $7 a bottle.

Two more for the list:

Coppola Rosso
Woodbridge Cabernet

Both under $10. There is always the "Two Buck Chuck" too - Trader Joe's Charles Shaw - not fantastic but really pretty good especially for $2-3 a bottle!

Castle Rock Pinot Noir 2007 $10.99 - great value!
