Anyone really worried about the state of our economy?

I hate to admit it, but I've always just rode through life not paying attention to the economy. I leave that up to those that actually have an interest in economics! But I'm realizing its time to get in quick and understand where our nation is headed. The frightening part for me is that the whole situation is so overwhelming! I think I am going to start small, make sure my investments, savings etc are all secured, pay off as much debt as possible and try to stay positive.

I don't consume myself w/ worry and Linda is right there are cycles and it needs to run its course. It can't stay this way forever and if everyone gets so scared that they stop living, spending etc it will get even worse. I am not saying spend money if you don't have it. I know they say the econmy is bad but if you got to a mall or a restaurant they are packed!

I am concerned but I believe that if we watch the news too much, we can become too stress and panic about the situation. Yes it's not good but I don't think that we are in the great depression II or anything. Remember that the news orgs don't make money from "all is well." And since there is this 24 hour access to news, we get the same thing over and over again-like brainwash!

I'm the same way! The economy didn't effect me much - or so I thought. I don't do stocks or anything of the sort, I paid off all of my debt a few years back, and I am doing okay. Then Fannie and Freddie crashed and I started to worry about the loan on our house. Then my husbands company got bought out last week, and he got laid off. I'm a stay at home mom, but we've both been applying for jobs in hopes of anything and it just isn't happening. It's so scary. Just to think of where this could lead. What do you do with two kids and no income?! :/

I was worried about the state of our economy, then I stepped up for my family. To save on childcare for our three children and gas costs, I left my job in January to work at home. Working out of my home office also allows more quality time. I buy our necessities from a domestic manufacturer. No middleman means lower costs, and our products are safe for us and our environment. I put a lot of thought into our economy and did my research.

Definitely freaked out. Mostly because I was part of a RIF (Reduction in Force) 2 months ago and lost my dream job. Since then, I have been applying to the (few) relevant jobs online and networking like crazy, but there just seems to be an overall hiring freeze. Until the economy gets sorted a bit, I think the majority of us out of jobs are in a holding pattern. NOT a good feeling. Makes me wonder- am I going to be taking my college degree and hard work the last 6 years in PR and apply it to holiday retail sales? (Maybe.)

Guess we just have to wait and see... and for now, I am TRYING to enjoy this time without a job.

Well, this year has been a year of firsts for me when it comes to my interest in politics and government mumbo jumbo as I call it. At 28 with 3 kids I'm just now beginning to pay attention, which could either be a good or bad thing, not sure. Anyway, I would be lying if I said it doesn't worry me at all, but then also I feel that there isnt' much I can do about it and it is truly in God's hands, so as with other things i'm going to pray and leave it up to him.

The economy is horrible and unfortunately we have not heard the end of it. I just got an email from our CEO that we will be laying off 3500 people over the next 15 months. Sounds thrilling doesn't it?

The bailout plan is not the answer. Businesses must be responsible for making/losing money. We have enough debt in the nation without having to add more to it. Seriously, we as a nation, just do not have the means to continue this course. Our dollar is WEAK. The conversion in other countries does not have the value it once did. It's pathetic.

In the past, I've been like a lot of people here, not really interested in the economy and thinking that it doesn't affect me. Now I'm realizing that it really does. I'm a WAHM with my own business that is already seeing a decline in sales. I'm worried about my family and my business.

I'm an author working through indy press, so you know I'm feeling the crunch.

I see in the news that European banks are also having trouble. sigh.
