The Time Factor

Speaking of online social clubs, how much time is everyone spending on these? By the time I check my fave blogs and respond to comments, I have precious little time to do the social club thing! What sort of time management has everybody been using?

Oh gosh... way too long! I'm thinking I'm going to buy myself an egg timer. I can spend a couple of hours reading, responding, commenting, twittering, writing... and get nothing done. I have been known to miss appointments because I forgot to look down at the clock. Now that we are back in school and have actually things to accomplish, I am on-line less and less. Saved by the bell, so to speak. ;)

Email notifications to the groups you join within the social network. I find that a lot of them just die out and the activity dies down which is sort of sad. I decided to hit the networks on the weekends when I have more time to participate. During the week I'm too busy running my business, blogging and answering lots of emails.

I have no idea how to get it all done or at least done well. If anyone figures it out, please start a new network telling how, because that would be awesome!

I need some kind of timer system on my computer - here you have ten minutes for this activity and fifteen for this one - cause right now my time management is for the birds! Although the recent google reader discovery (thank you 30 DC) has helped immensly. But there is still a long way to go before I feel really organized and efficient!

I just pop in and out throughout the day. Or late at night after my kiddos are in bed. And I check in frequently on things like Twitter and Bloglines while riding in the car via my phone.

I am usually online in the morning briefly, at nap time and when she goes off to sleep at night - when I spend the majority of my time online. I'm thinking about doing the mobile phone thing for Twitter though... which could be dangerous.

I usually do all my blog reading and social club stuff first thing in the morning and then again in the evening. I really spend too much time on the social club thing so I've started giving myself
time limits for how long a day I devote my time. Oh of course I twitter all day long, am kinda addicted to it.

Thanks for posting this Jennifer. That's the huge question in my mind. I just can't seem to fit it all in and actually do real work and homeschool the kids too. Could someone see about adding a few more hours to the 24 hour day please?

Usually when the little one is napping or when he is in bed OR when my husband takes him outside to play, I get time to get on the computer. Other than that, it is hard and I am in the same boat as you.

If you aren't already using a feed reader I recommend getting one because you can check the feeds once a week and then go back through them until you've seen each blog with a new post. Each time you check the feeds the blogs with new posts appear in bold, so you can just visit those. I use Mozilla Firefox and the reader I use is called Sage.

Time management? What's that?

I don't really have an online routine...my free time while Danny naps is usually spent on World of Warcra(ck)ft, catching up with a couple different forums that I'm a member of, cleaning, or hubby (sometimes in that order!) which leaves precious little time to do much else save clicking the 'stumbleupon' button when I have just a few seconds left to myself.

I am having a much harder time lately. I would love to spend time reading all my favorite blogs and then checking in to all of my online social sites, but I just don't have the time. I usually try to check in once a day if I can.
