twitter moms: the influential moms network

Along with gyms for kids, there are all sorts of ways companies are trying to create products aimed at getting kids fit. Do any of your kids have Wii Fitness? What do you think of it? Even if you don't -- do you like the idea?

No but I am willing to try!

Yeah - it's all about getting kids to not KNOW they are exercising. Fitness Wii could be one tool in the tool box, along with a healthy diet and plenty of time outside playing. I'm not so sure that kid gyms are the way to go though -- the thought of a child on a treadmill just seems... not normal!

I have Wii Fit but my 6 yr old can only manage a couple of the yoga poses and some of the exercises. She gets pretty frustrated with it. However, her moms love it!

I am opposite of you...I think a kid gym is an AWESOME idea. As long as the rule is that a "kid certified trainer" is responsible for being one on one with the kids working out. Teaching kids the proper way to lift and use machines and cardio equipement is an awesome way to make sure they understand how to keep their body healthy. Playing outside, just playing doesn't have the same life long benefits of working out. While yes it is extremely important, it is not working out. My kids, hubby, and I work out together on the weekends. They use 1 and 2 pound weights, sometimes as much as 5 pounds, and do muscle building exercises with us. We show them the proper form and it is so good for them. They feel big and they are helping keep their metabolism going. Muscle is a major determinate in how high your metabolism is. That is why men can loose weight and lean up easier than women...they have more muscle.

Having said all that...I want to get the wii fit (and a wii) for my kids for christmas. i think its an extra tool in the aresenal. Getting them into fitness as normal will carry into the rest of their life! It feels good to be in shape!!

We have a Wii Fit, I think I love it more than my son. A kids gym just opened up around the corner, it looks really cool.

My family has it and really love it. I use it more than anyone else. It is a good motivator, but did get a little monotonous. Was hard to use when weather was so pretty, but anticipate more once it gets cold. As a PT, I think this is a great idea, really works your balance and aerobic fitness. Very low impact :)

I think I'm changing my mind about kid gyms!

So -- is Nintendo Wii more for adults than kids?
