twitter moms: the influential moms network

Mostly because I'm curious . . .

How long have you been on Twitter?
How many people do you follow?
Do you read & tweet from twitter.com? another browser app? desktop app? phone? other?
What do you tweet about the most? (your daily life, your blog, your job, etc.)
Do your real-life friends and family have any idea what Twitter is?

Big question is: should we ask these kind of questions in the profile? Would be a GREAT addition if everybody is up for it. Do tell...

Megan, might be interesting to see it in the profile, but I'd also enjoy seeing the replies all together to see the variety of users we have. Don't think it would hurt to put more Twitter-specific info in the profile, though!

To answer my own questions...

I tested the waters of Twitter several months ago but just didn't "get" it. I decided to give it another try a few weeks ago and this time I caught on.

I'm following a LOT of people right now. I can't keep up with all of it but I spend a few minutes several times a day on it. My list is constantly changing as I find interesting people (like the Twittermoms!) or find that I no longer wish to follow someone (tweets are spammy, don't relate to me, contain profanity, etc.)

I started with an iGoogle web app, but then tried some desktop apps. I like how Tweetdeck has separate columns for @replies and direct messages, and I love the look of Spaz (and its alert sounds) but the keyboard slows up terribly sometimes, but now I use Twhirl most of the time and it's working pretty well.

My family and friends have no clue about Twitter. Heck, most of them don't even "get" my blog. I'm on a social media island in real life. Hubby, however, thinks it's pretty neat that I can ask a question and get almost-instant ideas, so he's at least Twitter-supportive. ;-)

I've been on Twitter since January, I think.

I currently follow a little over 200 people. It's an odd mix of moms, other video bloggers, comedy writers, drag queens, and wealthy party girls. I have some interesting people on my list!!

I read tweets from Twitter itself.

I try to only tweet a few times a day to keep the noise down. I also try to keep the tweets interesting for my diverse follow group. I feel a lot of pressure to write witty comebacks to the comedy writers. Especially my David Letterman joke writer. He's hysterical. I wish I was as funny as that dude.

I showed my 75 year old mom Twitter and she said, "Oh, it's an online cocktail party!" Indeed!

How long have you been on Twitter? less than a year but not sure how much

How many people do you follow? about 150

Do you read & tweet from twitter.com? another browser app? desktop app? phone? other? I use Tweet Deck so I don't have to keep my browser open

What do you tweet about the most? (your daily life, your blog, your job, etc.) my daily life

Do your real-life friends and family have any idea what Twitter is? No, and it is unexplainable really. I have never managed to get anyone to understand Twitter unless they were sitting at the computer looking at the site

I've been on twitter for only a couple of months. I love it though, mostly because it's like a community chat program.

I follow over 350 people and am getting close to having 200 followers!
I don't read or tweet from twitter.com very often. Occainsionally I do, but very very seldom. Mostly I use tweetdeck. It's the easiest to use, and acomodates my personality on twitter nicely. LOL! I've used twitbin, but didn't like that I couldn't read my DM's from there. So switched to tweetdeck.

Mostly whatever is being talked about throught the twitterverse. Sometimes I talked about my day, my blog, something my kids just did, whatever really.

The only person who has twitter, is my boyfriend, but he seldom uses it. Mostly started using it to see what I was talking about. LOL! My sons sorta know what it is, but being that they are still young (15 & 12) I don't let them use any of the chat programs, except for family. Other than that, no one I know even knows what it is. Which is fine with me at the moment.

How long have you been on Twitter? I think just over a month
How many people do you follow? 405
Do you read & tweet from twitter.com? another browser app? desktop app? phone? other? Sometime twihrl but always on my laptop. I'm bedridden about 75% of my time and I only leave the house about once every 2-3 weeks, so I don't need a mobile ap.
What do you tweet about the most? (your daily life, your blog, your job, etc.) - I Tweet about contests I'm running, and generally just having running conversations with others tweeting at the same time.
Do your real-life friends and family have any idea what Twitter is? Not one of my twitter friends is a RL friend. I've mentioned it to a few people and they just think I'm nuts. My kids aren't interested either, they're FaceBook fans which is weird because I'm not much of a FB fan. My husband uses the internet to look up weather forecasts - if there isn't a shortcut on the toolbar he's lost. I literally put in shortcuts for him that say, "For Weather Click Here Steve". :) He HATES computers and would rather live in a world without them and I have one on my lap nearly every waking hour. Opposites? YEP! And we'll have been married 25-years on October 8, 2008 :) I adore him even if he's technically challenged.

Twitter is the one place I go to first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I prefer it over Plurk, Friend Feed, My Space and all the rest because it's instant and there's almost always someone available to chat.

So Twitter isn't a teenage thing? I've heard that e-mail really isn't either and that texting is more their style.

How long have you been on Twitter? I'm not sure. About 6 months I think

How many people do you follow? At the moment 63

Do you read & tweet from twitter.com? another browser app? desktop app? phone? other? Sometimes I follow on the site, but mostly I use Twhirl because I can keep up with Friendfeed too.

What do you tweet about the most? (your daily life, your blog, your job, etc.) All sorts of things. What I'm doing, what other people are doing. I ask questions. Sometimes I'll add a link to a new post. I think I probably reply more than I actually post new tweets though.

Do your real-life friends and family have any idea what Twitter is? Nope, they don't have a clue. I have tried to explain . . .

I totally understand your social media island. No one I know, and certainly not my family, get what I do online.

I have been on Twitter for less than a year, but actively using it for about six months. I follow hundreds of people (mostly other mom bloggers and people who work in SEO and social media). It's hard to keep up, but the knowledge that I have gained from them is immeasurable. I have used Twhirl as well as TweetDeck but both have given me issues. I guess I'm a Power Tweeter like my boss calls me :)

I tweet about my life, random thoughts, blog posts and other things I find online that are interesting, my industry, and I like to join in conversations from time to time. My brother and I work (kind of) in the same industry. He's coming along. I'm hoping my mom will start tweeting soon. Should be interesting :)
