My daughter is 10 and I have planned on her getting the vaccine in the next few years. Just came across this article and it's making me think twice. Just wondering if anyone has any feelings on the subject.
Sorry, for some reason I can't get the link to work. But, without having read the article, it seems that the good outweighs the bad for this vaccine (as with most vaccines). I too have a 10 year old daughter and am planning to get her vaccinated as well. Would be very very interested in reading that article.
Wow that article would make anyone think twice. Very serious.
However, I do still think the good outweighs the bad here. That's just my opinion. What bothered me most about the article is that it did not specify if these reactions were temporary or permanent. That's information we need to know.
I have HPV and I won't be getting my daughter vaccinated.
1) I could have already passed the virus to her
2) If she doesn't have it she can only get it from intimate contact
3) Even if you do get it you just need to have regular pap smears which every women should be having anyway. My bad cells were removed by laser 14 yrs ago and have never come back.
I have twin daughters and I will not be giving them the vaccine. The risks far outweigh the benefits IMHO.
I did read somewhere that girls can have this without the mothers consent from the age of 13? I may have misread it tho.
I think that education regarding proper precautions and care and respect for their bodies is far more important.
It has been documented that early sexual activity is one of the causes of HPV.
I am so grateful to all who are offering their opinions. I still have no idea what to do but I hope this discussion keeps continuing so that I and other women can continue to be informed on the risks, benefits, alternatives and opinions of fellow moms. We obviously all want the best for our daughters and their well being and I thank you.
My small bit of advice to you would be to do your daughter a huge favor and educate yourself as much as possible on the topic. Look to different sources and make an INFORMED CHOICE....looks like you have begun that process her, keep it going! Good Luck:)
I did it for both my daughters two years ago. They are now 15 and 17. I did do a lot of research first. It has been done in Canada for many years. We had NO problems, no reactions. It is a tough and personal decision. Good Luck.
My daugher is only four, but in the future, I wouldn't think twice. I know a few people who have contracted HPV, and are at increased risk for cervical cancer....If I can prevent her from getting cervical cancer someday, why wouldn't I? (I will allow for there being risks that I may not know about, but will need to get informed on in the next few years....I have time)
Vaccines have become very controversial. Being that the vaccine is relatively new it has not been around long enough to have a clear opinion. Good luck and keep researching the issue!
Here is an article that I have on my wellness site that helps explains things. There are actual natural ways to protect ourselves and daughters from HPV.
