BEWARE OF WORK AT HOME OR TELECOMMUTE EMPLOYMENT OFFERINGS

Hi Ladies,

I thought that I would share some important information regarding Work at Home or Telecommute Employment Opportunities. Just recently, I started posting my professional resume on line with Yahoo! Hot Jobs for telecommute work. It's really amazing how more and more companies are accepting employees working from home based offices as telecommute employees. However, I realized a downfall to the system.

The internet is a world wide community and policing this community even on legitimate sites is almost impossible. So, in turn to protect yourself and your personal identity you have to do some investigating your self.

First, I highly recommend when posting your resume that you only post it for positions that you have actually submitted a resume or application. This will help eliminate phishing solicitations and scams offers.

Second, beware of services offering pre-background investigates to help increase your changes of being reviewed by companies. Although there are some reputable companies any employer will perform their own background check regardless and this will safe guard your identity.

Third, if you are considered a candidate, but they request more private information before your interview STOP. This is a RED FLAG! Companies do not perform pre-screen background checks before an official interview.

These are some safeguards that I've perform to avoid being a victim.

1. Google the Company. Compare office locations and phones numbers. More and more today, companies actually include a staff directory this is an excellent way to verify that the individual is actually an employee. Also, take notice of the e-mail address that the offer comes from because most companies add a combination of the employee and company name perfect example Sjones@companyname.com. Your major employers do not use gmail, inbox or yahoo dot com addresses. Another great thing to check out on the companies internet page is Careers or Jobs this is where they will list open positions and usually company benefits if they do not match with what you received then question it as a RED FLAG.

2. Beware of Internet Scams by searching these two wonderful websites, before releasing personal information such as your Social Security Number, Drivers License Number or any other personal identification information.

The first site is http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/internetschemes.htm.

The second site is http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.

I felt a responsibility to post this information from a recent experience. A well known international banking and insurance firm responded to my resume "I thought". The first e-mail requested signing an telecommute employee agreement contract stating the next e-mail would include my company contact and next steps for employment. That seem normal enough. However, a huge RED FLAG arose on the second e-mail that included a point of contact, my employee i.d. number and further instructions. In those instructions, they stated that it was their policy that Jr. Consultants open a personal free bank account with free internet online banking to handle clients transactions between U.S. clients and the European offices in France. Then they instructed me to provide the access and security information. Well I'm sorry but this didn't set right from 29 years of experience in Corporate America. I than accessed the two websites above and found out that there was numerous reports of internet scams from internet scam criminals using reputable international companies as a front to scam American's on reputable employment search engines. The next step that I took was to send a formal email to the America and European Corporate offices to confirm my findings. In deed this was an internet scam that this reputable company had no idea until they received my e-mail.

Due to economic times and more people searching for employment via telecommute or virtual assistant opportunities these white collar crimes will continue to rise. I just don't want any of my TwitterMoms friends to be a victim of the internet scam criminals. I hope that this will help you in utilizing the internet when seeking employment.

Please share any of your experiences and tips for utilizing internet employment and resume sites. I hope that you found this information helpful and informative.

Your Friend, Tammy Dantzler

Wow! It just keeps getting harder to sift through all the scams to find a job. No wonder I get so discouraged! Thanks for the two links where we can check for some of these scams. I wanted to add another experience that I had, recently where you receive an email from someone claiming they are interested in interviewing you for employment and linking to a site where you can select an interview time. These folks are usually MLM marketers or "financial product" groups that rely on you to spend money and recruit your friends into the same thing. (Think Amyway) It's waste of your time if your not interested in these types of groups.

Thanks for sharing that Mary. Once I advertised our daughter's dirt bike on Craig's list for sale and got slammed from marketers too. You just have to be really careful these days.
