Thanks

Has anyone read the Scott Westerfeld Midnighters series?? I just picked up books 2 & 3 and B&N has book 1 on order for me. But wondered if anyone had read them already and what they thought of them overall.

And yes, StephDC...I am still reading COA...still at the very beginning. I almost don't want to read it until the last one is out in what March??? Yikes. Hate to wait to see what happens to Jace and Clary.

i have a friend that is reading COA, don't know how close she is to finishing it but i don't think there is a change in the whole Jace/Clary subject.. maybe it will be a surprise at the end again :P hope that doesn't give away anything.

oh and no haven't read the Scott Westerfeld Midnighters series.. what is it about?

No, you didn't give anything away ;-D...I did read on her website (it was a preview of COA) that Clary has a boyfriend in it...I'm still very early into it...so don't know...Jace is certainly miserable and cute in his own I-'ve-lost-my-purpose way...but, I figure not until the explosive COG will the truth be revealed and we can get a hot scene out of those two...please???

Midnighters got to me not because it was a TM Book Club suggestion (obviously I am reading them at my own disorderly, haphazard pace) but because Ursula K LeGuin (one of my favorite fantasy writers of long ago) wrote this blurb for the cover - "Fast-paced and spooky-a good read for the dark hours." Okay, that works for me. Easy sell, eh? Basically it's about an extra secret midnight hour of the day where some teens find they have special powers.

Haven't started flipping through it. Got to get through COA first and of course, get the first dang book in the Midnighters series...so helpful that I have Book 2 and 3!

I haven't read anything of his befores although I've seen a lot of goodreads discussion on the Pretties/Ugiles series of his - all positive.

I'm another one in the Southern Vampire series. However, I'm Team Eric on that one. I'm current on the series (new book in May is what I'm told) and I'm still waiting to fall in love with Bill. SIGH....It could happen. I absolutely ADORED this series and highly recommend it. I listened to them on my Zune (www.audible.com is where I got them) and it was fantastic. The reader was really good. I think I'll go for another round soon. My fav was Dead to the World.

I haven't read any of the shorts, so thank you, Elena for listing them! I'm going to find them.

True Blood (HBO) is interesting. It definitely departs from the books. It's good in its own right but it is a very, um, intense show. I don't care much for Anna Paquin as Sookie but she's tolerable.

I had to give up on TrueBlood, i loved the show at first but they started getting way off especially w/ Jason. It started getting way more gory than i thought was in the books. And I'm with you Tonya, I'm Team Eric :D but was also Team Quinn there too. Didn't know there was another coming out, will have to be on the lookout!

Yeah, Jason was one of those things that are a bit "intense" in True Blood.

YES! My BFF (where is she! Obviously not watching this thread) says there are several more slated. I read that CH has a definite ending to Sookie in mind but she's going to take her time getting there.

I liked Quinn too. I don't think we've heard the last from him...

***Southern Vampire series!!*** LOVE those - May 2009 is going to be huge for me... it seems that every book I pick up has the next installment coming out then... UGH! Those are totally my A-#1 suggestion. Start with Dead Until Dark and go in order - it is awesome. TEAM BILL, Baby - don't let my gorgeous avatar of Eric fool you (I just love the Swede who plays him! LOL) not that I'd turn Eric away, mind you... That is a much more hotly debated contest in the message boards... Poor Sookie. NOT! Oh - and don't judge negatively from True Blood, the HBO series. I was extraordinarily irritated at first by the huge storyline 'manipulation' (Yes, Jason - if that guy weren't such a hottie, I'd have to shoot someone!) but I decided that I like not knowing every detail. For you TB/SVSers... I hear that there will be no Bubba and the jury is out on the pink spandex appearing in there. Got your attention yet?? :)

I also just read ***Zen and the Art of Vampires***, by Katie MacAlister. That was funny! OMLV. Perhaps not PG-13, but a very good book. This will be the 2nd book I read on May 11th, or whatever that date is. LOL Morty and the Muppets... enough said. Gawd.

I have read a whopping 5 books since before Christmas. Since I don't have them in front of me, I'll try to get back in and give some titles and reviews - cut me some slack... most of my reading gets done as I am falling asleep and jostling myself awake to read "just a little bit longer"... :) Details get missed LOL

Better get back to that supposed-to-be white carpet... I'd rather be reading...

Oh yeah - and Vin Diesel is supposed to be Quinn. OMLV! or should I say OMLSS's (shape shifters) LOVE me some Quinn! There are just too many awesome characters in those books (SVS).

And, according to the uber-talented author, she is "under contract" to write 10 SVS books, but wants to write them "indefinitely". She loves them as much as we do!

OH! Geez - Another good one I read this week by Katie Mac... Playing with Fire. Oh wow... I just discovered I love dragons too... don't laugh! :) It's amazing what pops into your brain while trying to scrub out mystery stains from afore-mentioned 'supposed-to-be-white" carpet...

I intend to pick this series (Southern Vampire series) up once I get my Kindle, but probably not before then.

However, I have been watching True Blood on HBO. Since I hadn't read the books, it was all new to me, and since they deviate from the books, that will be new to me as well. But I always had a hard time reading about how people didn't like Bill, but loved Eric. I never understood that; maybe I finally will once I'm able to read the books.

I definitely recommend the Sookie Stackhouse series. I am on book 3 and really having fun with it. Sookie is a great character and I love her humor.

Two good friends of mine recommended the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I read the first one called Dark Lover and really enjoyed it. Darker, more sex and I guess the all the books in the series deal with a different main character in the brotherhood. Anyone else read these?

I have read one of the books in the series, I've read the one about Wrath and have been meaning to get to the others. Just haven't done it yet.
