I am rarely an alarmist, but with 5 kiddos, two grown, I am very careful about information I pass on in the social networking world. MOREOVER, I'm manic about checking out my followers on FB and Twitter. Yes, it's possible...just go with your gut instinct.
Here's a piece I wrote today about safety on the social networking scene...such is why I love places like Twitter Moms. We have a common bond and it's a safe community.
Please pass this on to your teens, college kiddos and adults that you know who might be a bit "Free" about posting pics of their homes and updating about their vacations! THANKS!!!
Great reminder to be mindful of your updates. I have a friend on facebook who is constantly posting details about his business travel while his young family are home alone. It always makes me cringe just a little reading his status. .
I normally (recently did this though) never post when the hubby is gone, in fact I normally post about how things went after he came back....just in case. Was stalked when I was younger so this is one of my things I can't get past. Thanks for the article, I'll be retweeting it in a bit. I think more people should know and read it, I try taking pics of my kids with just them in the pic and try no other background.
That is a great reminder to everyone. Sometimes people forget and post very specific things. I rarely do. BUt I do post something its after it has happened.
Thanks for this. There have been times when I have repeated this message to my teenagers about not putting specific location information in their posts.
