With economy the way it is Costco has been packed every time I go. The employees were sharing with me that they have never had so many people there ALL the time, usually only during the holidays, but more and more people are starting to buy in bulk to save a buck.
Do you buy in bulk? If so, what? Lets share to give each other some ideas on how to get smart with our shopping during this crazy time and as the holidays approach.

Heck yes! Diapers, wipes, formula, dog food, paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex, coffee, cream, canned veggies, laundry soap, dryer sheets, dishwasher tabs - goodness! There's a few more but that's just off the top of my head. - oh toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap.

We go to Sam's as a family every Friday evening. It is usually not too busy (we used to go on Saturday, but with an infant, the wait was too long). We get eggs and bacon, we freeze the extra bacon (hubby makes eggs and bacon every Sunday morning), lunch meat, cheese, formula (we go through a 38oz can a week and we only have one baby, that's $30/wk, btw, most wholesalers take the formula checks!), books, instant breakfast mix, milk, frozen meals (for busy nights), paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dishwasher tabs, soda, juice, bread, cookies, jeans, dress shirts and pants for hubby, DVDs, meat, butter....to tell you the truth, I rarely go to the grocery store anymore unless I have a really good coupon. It saves on gas and since we hate to waste food we tend to only buy what we know we can use and we don't go out as often because we have stuff at home to eat! I am a huge fan of wholesale clubs! We usually do diapers at Toys R' Us but we buy the huge boxes.

I use Costco for things like milk, shredded cheese, and tortillas. Most of my shopping is done via the commissary, and when they have one of their case sales, I stock up on pantry items. I try and stay out of Costco unless I have to be there for more than one item, because we don't call it the $200 dollar store for no reason. It can be a valuable, time saving tool, but only when you can resist the temptation to buy things you don't really need!

Fondly,
Sharon

I agree about being able to spend a pretty penny at Costco. My husband and I think we've accomplished a lot when we leave there spending less then $100 and we only have one infant. Sometimes I feel a little silly shopping at Costco for my little family.
We purchase wipes, chicken, salmon, frozen veggies, edemame, artichoke hearts, garlic, condoms, yoplait smootie, cliff bars, water, diet soda, pace picante salsa and mission tortilla chips, We probably go 1-2 times a month and don't always buy ALL of that. My husband also usually finds some toy or game he must have. I also love checking their kids clothes, they usually have cute Carter's outfits for cheap.

Absolutely. The usual items: paper towels, toilet tissue, kleenex, Neutrogena shower gel, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby shampoo, and just last night, we bought their wonderful Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie mix! It's so convenient with 5 pouches of mix! It's not ALL for us to consume, the teachers at our son's Montessori school LOVE my baking. Most of the time we bring entire cakes and batches of cookies for them. They're so appreciative.

We just got a Sam's Club membership and someone had given us a Magic Bullet food processor for a birthday. I'm excited about being able to buy things like cheese in bulk and shred it myself. We go through a ton of shredded cheese! I'm a little confused about exactly what is freezable and what is not. Any tips?

I do buy in bulk, however, its not that often... I find that not having someone to split goods with ends up being a waste... so hey... why even bother...

I am a mom of 9 with two dogs and a cat...buying in bulk is a way of life for me. Costco's is not around here but we do have Sam's Club. I find that Sam's prices are not a deal...you just get a better quality product for the price. My personal favorites for buying in bulk are GFS. I also shop at Aldis & Save A Lot to maximize my grocery budget.

I only buy in bulk the stuff I buy anyway, like coffee, toilet paper, juice, crackers, pasta, etc. Costco's Kirkland brand I have found to be really good quality. The wipes there were the only ones that didn't give my little one a rash. I always find great deals there.
