Ok, I'm back. I finished very late last night We had an emergency at our house (almost 5 year old pulled a TV on her face, spent 5 hours at the ER, not fun). DH actually did get me the Kindle 2 and I'm loving it. I'm not quite sure what to put on it next. Ok, now to my review, lol.

I've read what everyone else has said, and I have to say I agree with pretty much everything. TOTALLY did not see Max being killed. Talk about tugging the heartstrings right out of your chest. Oy. I apparently missed the memo about CC saying that a Lightwood would be killed, so it took me by surprise. I agree with the PP who said that it kinda had to be Max, because NO ONE would forgive Sebastian for doing that. Killing an innocent child is the ultimate sign that you have no soul.

I had an inkling that something would become of the Inquisitor's statement to Jace as she was dying. We just didn't know what it was that she said. The fact that they kept repeating the story of how her son's wife was SO pregnant when she killed herself, I asked myself if the baby could have survived, and if he/she somewhere were involved.

Simon now, I guess, for lack of a better term, being part "Angel" because he drank Jace's blood. I figured that was why he was now a "Daylighter". I KNEW Jace couldn't really be part demon if his blood had that affect on Simon. Like I said before, I think Jace's arrogance was just a product of his upbringing and the fact that he thought he'd watched his father be killed in front of him. All of that combined was bound to have an effect on his personality. And after Valentine told him he was his son, it became a self-fulfilling prophecy where he was only acting the way he thought Valentine's son should. Does that even make sense?? LOL

I loved seeing that Alec, Isabelle, and Jace were all able to have moments where they actually acted their age, acted human. They'd all seemed so aloof and beyond normal feelings, that it was refreshing to see them have moments where they let their true feelings out.

The scene where Jocelyn comes back and Clary lashes out at her, I can totally relate with that. She'd been thrown into a world unwillingly and with no preparation, all by a mother who thought she'd been protecting her. I lost my mother about 18 months ago, and she did some stuff near the end, thinking she was protecting me, when all it did was make things harder. And I never really got the chance to confront her about it. So, yeah, I can relate.

The Hodge/Samuel thing. Yeah, I kinda figured that. Hodge was a piece of work. He was the epitome of cowardice trying to disguise itself as patriotism. And when he finally tried to do something right, whether it was because he was completely outnumbered, then he gets what's coming to him.
The Angel Raziel scene, wow, that was the closest I got to having a heart attack. I just COULDN'T believe after all they'd been through, that Clary would lose Jace, again. I'm glad that it ended up being Raziel who killed Valentine. I know that while he COULD have done it, it would have bothered Jace for the rest of his life if he'd actually been the one to do it. And the fact that Valentine just couldn't believe that Raziel would disagree with his motives. He was THAT self-centered and self-righteous. I loved it. :D Truly, truly, righteous retribution.

So, I throughly enjoyed it. I was happy with the way things turned out. Makes me impatient for "Infernal Devices", lol. I have a list of books I want to read, so I better get crackin'! :D

Glad that your DD's alright...I hate ER visits like most parents do. And I am so sorry about your Mom.

Glad we're pretty much all in agreement. No controversy here, eh?? I am looking forward to ID. We're going to need a new ticker, eh?? *grins*

I'm wanting more from COA...I feel like there's still some "loose ends" that have my interest piqued. LIke how Jace will "fall in love with the wrong person". When Clary meets with the fairy queen there at the end, and she alludes to more secrets, I wonder what those are. I dont feel like it's a solid "end" you know? Or maybe I'm just crazy. I wish there were more Mortal INstruments to come. Who knows? It just seems like there's more there than just that end.

Max. I never saw that coming. That was tragic. It doesnt help that my husband and I had just watched "Changeling" with Angelina Jolie, and then I read Max dying, and I about had a meltdown, lol. When Sebastian appeared, I felt like something was totally wrong with him, and the way he was treating Clary. Sort of like he was leading her on, teasing her...I knew there was more to him than just another "love" interest! And, gosh, when Jace died there at the end, I almost stopped reading...so glad I did, though! But I honestly thought she had killed him off, and I didnt know what I was going to do then. Very very happy she didnt.

I honestly just loved the concept of these books. Did you guys read on her page where the inspiration came from? Footprints on the ceiling of a tattoo parlor...kinda makes me want to go to that tattoo parlor :) It was so great. I loved them :)

I did cry twice. Max's death was a surprise. And that scene with him clutching Jace's soldier toy. Ugh. It didn't help that my DS is 9 yo and love manga.

And again, when J+C "spent" the night together. That was so well written. Mhhmm.

Glad you enjoyed it. Come and visit us on http://mundiemoms.freeforums.org/ . I'm Ms. SoNotAMundie there. And we do have fun!!

Oh I could see it...with blonde hair. You know what I caught the other night that made me think oh, he could've played Jace when he was young..."Cruel Intentions" Ryan Phillippe.
