twitter moms: the influential moms network

Alrighty, twitterMoms ... my girlfriends & I have started a "ladies nite PJ party" movie club. You know, instead of a book club - we get together & watch chick flicks (grin).

So, I'm asking everyone to weigh in on their faves so we can build up our list for the spring & summer. We've already watched Mama Mia & Calendar Girls.

A little about this group ... we're all moms, we're all over 35, we're all in different fields of work (health care, dental, home school, entrepreneur, teacher) and we all have a great sense of humor.

I turn my master bedroom into a dorm for a night & give the kids the run of the house while we cuddle up on my bed, over stuffed chairs & the like. With munchies we wish we had back in college & jammies that love ya even though you've had kids!

Your feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks,

april

Practical Magic is one of my favorites.

I love the way the women overcome their "differences" (ok, so the sisters are witches) and bond together to get rid of the evil guy.

It is based on the novel by Alice Hoffman. Can't go wrong with one of her stories.

Find a hot man like James McAvoy or Gerard Butler and just watch their movies or along those lines..

As far as a older movie I would suggest Beauty Shop and of course Thelma and Lousie.

Would you delve into the archives for How to Make an American Quilt?
Or Terms of Endearment? Both great chick flicks on cross-generational bonds between women.
Then there's Steel Magnolias, also a great one about bonds between women.
Recently saw The Women, although not on video yet--look for it soon. Not Oscar-worthy or anything but touches on very relevant themes to married women and moms.

Not a big fan of "chic flicks" because most of them are close enough to being soft porn for women. It seems that there is at least one sex scene or a scene that implies sex with someone other than her husband/his wife (aka fornication, affair, adultery). Whatever you want to call it, or however you "wine & dine it" it is still wrong.

Now I know that there are some movies out there that do not fall into that group that are still considered "chic flicks"

I think that Lake House is my favorite.

Comedy: I love "My Favorite Wife" with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. :-)

Drama/General:
"No Reservations" was really good with Catherine Zeta Jones. Seconding "Pride and Prejudice" (the long, wonderful A&E version). "Little Women" with Winona Ryder. "Anne of Green Gables" (never tire of it).
