CONTEST DETAILS:
Now more than ever, we are raising our children in a multi-cultural world and globally connected society. Each individual culture and distinct experience adds to a colorful and enriching view of the world. In many respects, we live in a cultural kaleidoscope.

Our friends at Global Wonders have developed a contest of sorts, designed around a simple question for the blogging moms here at TwitterMoms:

How do you inspire your children to learn more not only about their own culture, but the customs, languages and lifestyles of others?

How it Works

To participate in the Cultural Kaleidoscope Blogging Contest, simply write a post on your blog describing how you help your children discover and appreciate other cultures by answering the question above. Share your tips, tricks and secrets for teaching your children about different cultures from across the neighborhood and around the globe. Apart from that, the only requirement we ask is that your post includes at least one link to GlobalWonders.com and one link back to this page.

To enter your blog post in the contest, simply return to this discussion page, post a comment below summarizing your blog post in a paragraph or two, and include an active link to your qualifying blog entry. That’s it!

PRIZES & AWARDS

  • The first ten bloggers to post REAL entries will get a Global Wonders DVD. You can keep it or give it away as a gift or use it as a prize for your own blog readers. Just make sure your post is thoughtful and considered. Haste makes waste!
  • One random winner will be selected from all the entries posted here before midnight PST, November 26th (the day before Thanksgiving) and will win a set of four Global Wonders DVDs.
  • The top three moms who get the most blog comments by midnight November 26th PST, will also get sets of four Global Wonders DVDs.
  • The experts at Global Wonders will select a final winner based on the post that presents the most creative ways moms inspire children to learn more about the customs, languages and lifestyles of others. This person will get not only a set of four DVDs, but get their post featured on GlobalWonders.com and an above-the-fold link (on TwitterMoms.com) to your winning blog entry for the remainder of 2008!

Final winners will be announced December 3, 2008!

Great topic Megan!

I've posted at my blog: How Do We Encourage Multi-Cultural Appreciation in Our Tot? Through...

Basically, I explain how, through the foods of different cultures, we are inspiring an understanding of, tolerance of and an appreciation of those cultures, their customs, traditions and lifestyles.

I love this topic, it is near and dear to my heart. I've written about ten ways to raise an intercultural child here:

included food, books, movies, friends, songs, and more.

Thanks, Megan & Global Wonders!

What an exciting topic! I just posted at my blog: Multi-Cultural Teaching Gives Our Children Confidence & Roots

I wrote on how celebrating & learning about different holidays has enhanced our families ability to relate with & appreciate cultures & religions outside of our own.

Thanks for the opportunity! xoxo

I posted on my website for teachers, about how I teach my students about other cultures. Teaching small children about other cultures is best done through reading books with children of all types in them. My site is also for parents who want to find resources to use at home with their own children.

I just posted on this as well - Global Wonders I LOVE this series and enjoyed posting on it - I firmly believe in cultural awareness - just ask my kids!!! Having a daughter from China has only added to this "love" of mine - and now celebrating holidays from other cultures has broadened how we view others. What a great series and post - thanks!

Great contest!

I just put up my post. How do we expose our kids to other cultures? We have a second home in Aruba and their exposure to other cultures began when they were born. They don't know any different and will definitely be more balanced people having grown up this way.

We're very fortunate. My daughter attends a school for the gifted with children from 60 different communities. The entire learning experience takes all the cultures, beliefs, religions, etc.and integrates them into their homeroom, art, choir, through community involvement and excellent guest speakers. Their diversity day is like nothing I've ever seen before! As a family we search out activities which will provide a wonderful learning experience. Last week we attended the Native American Festival sponsored by MetroParent and this coming up weekend we'll be attending an Urban Art Show in Detroit.
I love this topic and am thankful that my daughter has a more cultural upbringing than I did.

Exposing my kids to different cultures is something I think about a lot. It's really important to us. I hope we get it right!

I wrote about what we're doing to expose her to different cultures today and how I hope we cna keep it going as she gets older.

My husband is half Japanese and I have my Mother-in-law, who is Japanese, come into my son's class and show the kids how to make origami and even roll sushi. She also did numbers from 1-10 in Japanese and the class loved it! I love Japanese food and she has taught me a lot! I love making her traditional dishes! She also gave me her wedding kimono and I love showing my boys how to put it on, they love it!

It's very important to me to continue the traditions that were important to her and I get some much joy out of sharing those traditions and keeping them alive with my family.

My blog post is here: http://minnemom.com/2008/11/17/learning-about-other-cultures-at-mus...

It describes how museum visits can spark a child's interest in other cultures, and how a visit to the library can provide more information.
