Anyone have a sense of when diaper cakes became a popular baby shower decoration / gift?

I think it was around 8 years ago or so!! I only remember it because it was featured on a Oprah show!! LOL
They have become more and more popular but there is so many new techniques!! I actually design them myself have a peek!! www.basketsbycarrie.com under the diaper cake tab!!

LOL!! No problem!! I've actually heard that before....
A diaper cake is basically anywhere from 40-70 diapers that are wrapped up with ribbons and bows and are filled either on the inside or the outside with gifts such as bottles, pacifiers, socks, washcloths and toys! Some even have lotions, soaps, bibs, clothes,etc too!
This way you have a beautiful diaper cake to give the lucky Mom-to-be which she has the joy of pulling apart and finding all the treasures inside or outside too! This is the unique way of giving her all those essentials she is going to need, especially the diapers in a much cuter way then her opening up a package of diapers, etc!! Then dolled up with ribbons and bows and little cute cutouts so it's ultimately the perfect gift!! They have become "The" thing to give at showers!! :)

I do not know how long they have been popular and our customers love them! We have different varieties in our online baby boutique!
They are usually called baby shower cakes or baby diaper cakes and come in many sizes, shapes and styles!
Everything from diaper pinatas to college diaper cakes with collegiate themes!
They are the latest twist on the typical "baby gift baskets" (although they are still very popular).
