Do you unfollow people on Twitter if they never reply or acknowledge your tweets?

Hi!

I think that since Twitter is becoming popular to the mass population, more and more people feel like you, there is a certain etiquette that we should be following. But on the same token, since it is becoming more popular so many users just sign-up to "see" what the fuss is about and they have no clue what the etiquette protocol is.

Unfortunately, until someone like Oprah has a social networking etiquette show, we'll have to just deal with users like the one you mentioned. I'd say, do what you feel is best. It took me a little while to figure it out, but I've decided to unfollow users like you've mentioned, those that only RT others comments, and those that Tweet several times EVERY hour! lol When my friend timeline is constantly full of just one user I can't stand it.

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not totally crazy about this? I don't give a ton of thought, but every so often, I realize "Hey, I tend to respond to 'so and so' a lot and have never heard back. To me...just rude. If the point of Twitter is networking and friendship, and I'm not getting either form some Tweeps, I shall unfollow!

I have never un-followed because of lack of response but have un-followed people because I hit my follow limit and had to make "cut-backs". Then I looked and who I have the most contact with and if someone never tweets...then I gave them the boot. On the other hand...I don't have an iPhone, so I just check Twitter when I am home on the computer, so I might take a while to respond to someone. So give people a chance to respond before "un-following"! :)

I think if I did that, I wouldn't be following many. I don't take it personally though. It's tough to remember to click on the @ link, and some don't even know what that is for. I also seem to find that many go on twitter and have fun for a week or so, and then don't go back for awhile.

With the kids, tasks, and all of the network sites, it's easy for me to miss something. Some networks, such as MySpace, I only visit once every other week. There are just so many sites, that I have a tough time trying to keep up.

Tweetdeck is another tool that is great keeping up with mentions making it easy to monitor and reply to fellow Twitterers.

I actually have a bigger problem with people who follow long enough to be followed back and then hit the unfollow button. It boosts their numbers, but not very friendly. Not something I consider to be professional, or supportive.

Hi,

I'm new at this so I'm not at the point of unfollowing people if they never acknowledge or reply. I am kinda slow at replying as I'm still figuring all of this out along with the whole blogging etc. I am working on getting to know the whole system though so that I can develop some social etiquette though! :)

No, I don't unfollow for non-reply. We're all busy and unless it's a direct message or @ reply, some of us could easily miss a tweet. It's like a lottery who gets a reply from me. I don't always sign on everyday and never at the same time so it's just luck if I happen to sign on and someone has tweeted something that I feel like I have to comment back on.

But then, even though I've been on Twitter a while, I don't have a big followers/following number because I do look at each profile of my followers before following them back. I don't do auto follow so I only follow back those that I think would be interesting to me.

Even with my low numbers, I have trouble keeping everyone straight (i.e. what niche they tweet about) and I know I can't answer to everyone of their tweets. So I don't take it personally when I don't get responses, even though sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself. lol!

I actually am asking about @ replies...I know people aren't on every day, and I definitely would not get upset over a few missed replies or ignored comments. I completely understand that it's impossible to respond to everything. I was more referring to the people who you specifically @ reply to repeatedly, without acknowledgement...I should have made it more clear that I am on a lot, and these people are, too...I know they are around and just ignoring.

Hi, I've actually taken a good look at my twitter followers and started un-following those that constantly send spam type tweets and those that don't reply or respond when a direct message is sent. I view twitter as another relation building tool, much like twittermoms and facebook. Have a wonderful Monday and absolutely fabulous week.

I read where you said you don't have an I-phone , you don't need a I-phone to twitter , I have a blackberry and I think there may be other phone you cab twitter with as well !!
By the way no one as ever replied to me so I really don't try anymore!

I will unfollow people if they start posting tweets that are obscene. As far as unfollowing people who don't reply I do not do that. I will however remove someone as my friend on Facebook if they ignore me and don't reply to any of my messages or chat messages.

You know what, I'm active on Twiiter too, at least I was. Now I'm on about 4 days a week and only about a hour to two hours. I do use it to promote my business, but when I try to really get to know someone or respond to their tweets most of the time I get no response. I think that is so rude, I participate and ask questions when it comes to finding out what type of movies they like and etc and most of the time no response. I even RT their tweet and no one harley ever re-tweets mine. I think most people are so rude and too much about their business at least I do take the time out to conversate and get to know a person.
