twitter moms: the influential moms network

At what age are kids becoming interested in Blogging or reading other's blogs?

The reason I'm asking is at Imagination-Cafe our mascot, Cookie, writes and maintains her own blog (it's actually me, but I write from her point of view).

We haven't really been getting a great response and I was wondering if perhaps it's because no one knows about it - it's relatively new, or if kids' just aren't interested.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts?

Cookies blog can be found at; http://imagination-cafe.com/wordpress/

Thanks :)

No my daughter doesnt blog and doesnt show interest yet. She's 4. But Ive heard it can be a great tool for older kids to learn about computers, and how other families in the world live.

Hi Mary;

We have games, tunes, articles, Cookies Blog, Krumbs - Dog Detective - where kids can leave questions and Krumbs will sniff out the answers. We also have giveaways, career-o-rama, Open mic and a tonne of other cool things.

Yes!! Of 4 daughters and 2 sons (18-8) 2 girls are blogging.

DD#3 She has been drawing and writing stories since she was 7. Stop by and see her creations. She just set it up last week.

DD#1 She only has 2 posts and I am waiting to get her announcement on my site til she has a chance to get her flow going.

Hi, Sandie! My daughter who is 9, has her own blog. She has bipolar disorder and wants to share her thoughts and feelings (this is a big step for her!) I currently limit her to one post a week so she doesn't get overwhelmed. I look forward to checking out your blog with her and maybe helping her connect with other child bloggers!

My daughter (13) started a couple to do with babysitting, but didn't keep either up. She's also played around with creating websites.

My son DOES have a blog, he's almost 8. He started it a few months ago when he asked me if he could write a book, like me. I told him a good way to see if you can write a book is to maintain a blog. So, he asked me to set him up. I used blogspot.com b/c it's free and that's where my blog is hosted. He doesn't blog as much as I do, but he certainly keeps checking to see if he has any more "fans". Check it out at http://LogansLaughs.blogspot.com. Leave a comment, make his day!!

No mine don't nor will they until much older. Although I do believe that kids need to learn how to use the web responsibly and constructively, we believe that traditional literacy comes before digital literacy

Hi Amanda;

Thanks for the response. I checked out your daughters blog and left a comment. It's actually one of the better blogs I've read in a long time. She is very articulate and has a wonderful sense of the world and her own feelings. Great!!

Yes, check out Cookies blog - it's fun and safe (I'm Cookie) so she'll always be kid-friendly :)
