Yes, definitely do a little on line research into Dali's life. He was very eccentric and did a lot during his life to just draw attention to himself. He give the phrase 'temperamental artist' a brand new meaning.
This quote about him by George Orwell pretty well sums him up, "One ought to be able to hold in one's head simultaneously the two facts that Dalí is a good draughtsman and a disgusting human being. The one does not invalidate or, in a sense, affect the other."
He was pretty well an attention junky and would go to great and sometimes disgusting lengths to draw attention to himself. He would frequently talk in 3rd person and thought quite highly of himself to the point of being a bit deranged. And while I haven't gone into much detail in this part of his life there appears to be some very odd/distrubing sexual preferences.

Okay Steph...that second pic...oh my my!...May have to add that to my never ending jpeg file?!?! The one of him on the street reminds me of that comment he made about having to run to the drugstore to get some underwear because he forgot to pack it. I know, I'm a mom. Therefore, the entire concept of underwear is so important. Please remember it was only 6 months ago my youngest was potty trained?!?!

Regarding him walking around without a swarm of paps..
I saw, or read, him stating that no one recognized him in NYC. So he was able to walk around freely. Then he went to the malls for Hot Topic...
