Thanks; I guess I should probably just go ahead and hand in my 2 week notice now, huh?

Oh, man, I love Viggo! Perfect, perfect casting. This subject hasn't come up here, but I am an ENORMOUS LOTR fan. I also pictured Frodo differently when I read the book - but Elijah Wood really worked.

Hey Nikki! Nice to see you!

Hi Nikki! We've missed you!

We should start an LOTR discussion, Julie. I loved both the books and the movies. I thought Peter Jackson created an amazing adaptation of a well-respected series of books with a massive fan base. It just goes to show that good book-to-movie adaptations can be done. With enough money, that is.

Ashley, isn't it funny that we all keep finding these other things that we have in common! I would love to talk LOTR -- I have to run right now, but I can do that later today.

Also, did we miss your b'day just recently? Happy Birthday!!! And I know how you feel -- I'm four months older than you. I can hardly even believe it myself, and I've had four months to get used to it!

Thanks, Julie. Saturday was my 40th birthday. We had a great weekend -- tons of fun w/friends and the kids spent the weekend w/my mom. However, I still don't like that 4 at the front of my age. Four decades seems so old. And now I'm 23 years older than Edward! ;-)

Happy belated Birthday! I can't even deal with doing that math (being older than EC) -- when it starts to be evident that I could be someone's mom, it is way too weird.

There is just something about contemplative Rob that makes my stomach flip. He's so silly all the time that to see him serious makes me just want to hug him, ya know.

So I watched an interview with Rob last night that eluded to the fact that he partially wrote Bella's Lullaby. He said that they were shooting while he was trying to pick something out on the piano and they just used the footage but he wasn't given sheet music to play. Interesting? Do you think they took what he came up with and then has someone instrumentalize it?

I saw the answer to this question in an interview w/Catherine Hardwicke, but now I can't remember which one. She was really glad that the interviewer asked the question, though, because she wanted to clear up the misconceptions about his involvement in Bella's Lullaby. I don't have time to do the story justice at the moment, but the jist is that they knew they wanted a complex musical piece that builds throughout the movie from piano to full orchestra. However, they didn't have it written when it was time to film the scenes, so they had him improvise at the piano. Then they had the full song written by Carter Burwell. If I can find the actual interview, I'll post it here. Or maybe Steph remembers. She reads everything!

The article I'm referring to below is from the LA Times blog. Here is the relevant text, in case you don't want to click through:

I asked Robert if he was interested in writing the love theme and he went, ‘Not really. No, that’s not my thing.’ I mean he’s not like an artist that you give an assignment to and he completes the assignment. For Rob, it flows out of him. He’s more of an organic artist. When he feels something that’s when he creates. You can’t tell him, ‘Do this. Do a love theme for Bella that will be used throughout the movie and translates to six different instruments.’ That’s not the way he creates. So, he never wrote a love theme for Bella.

What he did the day we shot the piano for the first time was he sat down and improvised for the hour we filmed. He improvised beautifully. I mean, he’s such a musician. Just beautiful things and melodies, but it wasn’t an intentional theme that could be used in different parts of the movie and developed and orchestrated with the violins and everything. He just let it flow. So the composer, Carter Burwell, did compose this beautiful love theme and that is developed in the early stages, in biology class, and then it keeps growing and goes through different instrumentations, and finally recorded with a full orchestra. When we re-shot the scene, Rob played that love theme on the piano.
