Government bailout for the porn industry?

  • Rating: 5 after 1 vote
I was appalled this morning when hearing the news of Hustler's Larry Flynt and "Girls Gone Wild's" Joe Francis asking for a 5 billion dollar government bailout. It seems there is no such thing as a recession proof industry after all. Come on where is it going to end? Is the government really expected to help out the porn industry? Flynt is quoted as saying Congress must "rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America." I’m not sure about your feelings on the topic, but since when is the government responsible for that? Nice try Mr. Flynt. How do we approach a conversation with our children on the topic? Well kids health care is out but porn is in, it seems a little rediculous?

Truly, I was shocked when I read that yesterday as well. Crazy! If the govt goes for it, it will be more than concerning. A rearrangement of our priorities better be part of the "change".

I'm in total agreement...I couldn't believe it. I did however read a little while ago that GA was throwing around ideas on how to get the budget out of the deficit. One of the ideas was implementing what I think was like a $4 tax on "adult" clubs. Wouldn't really do much good to implement a tax if it wasn't already a big money maker.

I did not hear about this one but this guy is a joke. I have no problem with the fact that this guy made millions+ off of what he did, I don't agree with it but hey, he did it.

But this is outrageous that he is asking for money from the government...this dude is really shameless. Someone should remind him we OK as a nation before "Girls Gone Wild"

I think this is Larry Flynt's way of making a point with our government....just where does the bailout stop. And who decides what segment of the private business world will keep our country out of a depression if bailed out.

I just laughed when I saw it. I really don't think he is doing it in seriousness. I think he is being sarcastic and facetious.

I saw this and laughed! Come on! For real?
Keeping our banking industry a float is one thing. Helping the car companies stay a float is iffy....
But Porn? I don't despise porn. I don't financially support it either. This is a "luxury" item, not a necessity. Poor babies aren't making their billion a dollars a day, so they need bailed out. BS!

Now off to read the rest of the replies.

Too funny I just wrote about this on my blog Blah-Zay. I mean really where does this bailout stop? It's not like Congress would really approve a porn industry bailout, but they shouldn't have bailed anyone out to begin with. They should have let the sinking banks sink and start to pickup from there.

As for Larry Flint he's an idiot and he can't really expect to get "bailed out"

Nothing surprises me...but what would be appalling is if they are granted it...this is not something I have read about yet except for here so...I would be very upset to see them bailed out! Guess I better start following the news again!

I agree ... sometimes it takes the absurd to point out the obvious!

Unbelievable...why not bail out the drug dealers, etc...

This just contributes to the moral rot of this country...we are better than this...I think it is totally a slap in the face to the citizens of America...Why not take their share of money and give it to programs to help women....and men caught in this addiction. We need to pray that this is totally refused. A sad sad day in America. Oh well- all you can do is pray that God steps in.

I totally agree. When hubby and I saw it we just laughed because it wouldn't be unlike Larry Flint to make a point in such a way. I for one am glad that he is someone of a certain celebrity that is willing to say something publicly to make people think about how ridiculous all of these bailouts really are. I honestly don't think that he was serious at all about wanting the government to bail out the porn industry. I just think that he was trying to get everyone to think about what our government is doing bailing out all of these huge corporations that made tons of money for so many years and now want a hand out from a country who is experiencing our unemployment rate continue to increase and our financial future keeps getting bleaker. Larry Flint has been an advocate before and I just think this is his latest attempt at being an advocate and I for one commend him for making people think about how ridiculous these bailouts really are.
