Government bailout for the porn industry?

  • Rating: 5 after 1 vote
I was appalled this morning when hearing the news of Hustler's Larry Flynt and "Girls Gone Wild's" Joe Francis asking for a 5 billion dollar government bailout. It seems there is no such thing as a recession proof industry after all. Come on where is it going to end? Is the government really expected to help out the porn industry? Flynt is quoted as saying Congress must "rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America." I’m not sure about your feelings on the topic, but since when is the government responsible for that? Nice try Mr. Flynt. How do we approach a conversation with our children on the topic? Well kids health care is out but porn is in, it seems a little rediculous?

No way, really? No ... no way. I have to check this out! I'm not opposed to porn but a bail out? I'm shocked the industry has been hit so hard. But then, with being able to d/l it for free on the internet, I guess I'm not surprised.

edit - ok I looked this up. It's quoted the industry is not in "danger". Flynt loves his publicity though.

I think this is Larry Flynt's way of making a point with our government....just where does the bailout stop. And who decides what segment of the private business world will keep our country out of a depression if bailed out.

I just laughed when I saw it. I really don't think he is doing it in seriousness. I think he is being sarcastic and facetious.

I totally agree. When hubby and I saw it we just laughed because it wouldn't be unlike Larry Flint to make a point in such a way. I for one am glad that he is someone of a certain celebrity that is willing to say something publicly to make people think about how ridiculous all of these bailouts really are. I honestly don't think that he was serious at all about wanting the government to bail out the porn industry. I just think that he was trying to get everyone to think about what our government is doing bailing out all of these huge corporations that made tons of money for so many years and now want a hand out from a country who is experiencing our unemployment rate continue to increase and our financial future keeps getting bleaker. Larry Flint has been an advocate before and I just think this is his latest attempt at being an advocate and I for one commend him for making people think about how ridiculous these bailouts really are.

You are correct in it is a STATEMENT he is trying to make..I'm in the ROMANCE and RELATIONSHIP INHANCEMENT BIZ. and while evryone is jumping on the BAND wagon to condem(sp) him.. their not JUMPING UP AND WRITING & PHONEING the people who can make a differance in what is wrong with our government..we have struggling single moms..WHO'S BAILING them out..we have SENIORS who can't pay for MEDS & FOOD who's bailing them out.. we have VETRANS who have put their LIVES in others hand to defend us.. who's bailing them out...everyone pisses and moans about the situation but my question is how many of those pissers and moaners are actually trying to make a differance..I'm not in agreement with certain parts of porn but to each his own in his own bedroom and I'm not in agreement with all chapters of Religion but to each his own in his own house of Faith..I'm a Christian Cross wear'n church goin community active charrity giving don't believe in Pre-marital sex oposed to Living w/SO before marriage single mom but those are my beleifs and I respect everyone elses and I've been Poor Poor Poor and never asked the Gov. to bale me out so why should BIG Industry have that Option...phewwwwwwww...sorry Ladies..lol..personally I think Larry Flint is gross but we live in a melting POT and it is what it is..I say Let's start a Government Blog and send it everyday to Whom ever it will make a differance

I agree that he was just trying to make a point. I guarantee they are not losing money right now. Porn is addictive and it is a way guys (and some women) self-medicate. They are still buying as they get more and more depressed looking for a high.

I agree with you!

I laughed when I read about this one. While there at it, why don't they just legalize prostitution. I don't think the porn industry is suffering, I think he just did it for the publicity like many others here have stated.

uuuuuuuuuuuh. I'm at a loss seriously. While I'm not a huge fan of porn, I figure to each there own. But a goverment bailout? SERIOUSLY? I would hope not.

Bingo. I'm surprised more people didn't get the joke, tbh.

LET EM ROT!!! They have been rotting young minds for years. What comes around goes around. They will just have to make cut backs like everyone else. They have been spoiled by their riches for so many years and putting their eggs in their physical basket...material items do not last forever anyway.

I was shocked, horrified and saddened by the depravity that people can stoop to.

When I finally went and read about this, I got it. Yes, that is exactly what my husband thought as well as I thought...he just is making a point, what better person than someone is such a controversial business...it will grab the attention of sooo many and be discussed word of mouth....great tactic and I hope the point finally gets to our government!
