Help!!! My son's diaper doesn't last the whole night.

  • Rating: 2 after 2 votes
My son is just over two and still in diapers. Often his diaper overflows and he ends up wet in the morning. This is even more of a problem b/c he sleeps w/ us--so my bed ends up wet as well....sometimes so do I. For the last week or so this has happened EVERY night.

We are using the Overnight diapers and I moved up a size like last month. I'm on my way to get the next size up but does anyone have any ideas???

I always had that problem with Huggies. Try Pampers and if he wakes at night, change him. You can also try the easy ups if he is getting potty trained.

There are absorbent inserts you can purchase to put inside the diapers also. Don't give your son anything to drink after dinner and that might help also or at least not after the last diaper change in the evening. . I would probably move him to a travel bed or some kind of toddler bed, maybe in your room that has a waterproof cover on the mattress. That has to be a pain in the neck to change bedding every day. If he had his own bed in your room, he would still be close to you but gain a bit of independence and your bed would stay dry at the same time.

We are using the Huggies Overnight diapers which I would assume would hold more. And they did for awhile. I was wondering about the easy ups nightime if they're designed to handle one pee or a nights worth.

Moving up a diaper size may not help if it doesn't fit properly. I agree, reduce liquids earlier in the evening. If you can get him to sleep in his own bed, you can layer a couple waterproof pads/sheets so that you only have to remove at night rather than changing sheets in the middle of the night.

I'm trying to avoid changing him at night cuz he has the footsies pjs. maybe I'll get him new pjs that would make it easier to change him.

Where do you find those inserts? What are they called?

I used the Huggies overnight diapers on my son and they seemed to work well. Good luck:)

You can find them at most grocery stores actually. They are just like absorbent liners that fit inside the diaper that give you a little more absorbency through the night. There are also special nighttime diapers in some of the brands that might give more padding and absorbency. We tried them for my Granddaugher once when she was here... They were just the store brand , nothing fancy or expensive.

Try getting him to potty just before going to bed and definitely nothing to drink though it is always so tempting to do. Boys are much harder than girls to get through this stage.

It really sounds like he is drinking alot of fluids prior to going to bed, rather than spending the extra money for more pampers, reducing liquids would be best and potty time before bed even better.

He's a little co-sleeper like mine. I would try to reduce liquids, and put a fresh diaper on him as close to bedtime as you can. If he wakes to nurse or eat in the middle of the night give him a quick change. Or you can try some cloth diaper inserts, that may help.

I have to agree about stopping the liquids after dinner. Juice is the worst! It makes its way through those little bodies so fast. There was a time that my son didn't have a drink (only a teeny tiny sip before bed) from 6pm on. It helped a bunch and made clean up much easier.

Good Luck!

We used Huggies Overnights one size larger than the regular day time diaper. A close second is Pampers Baby Dry. Definately use one size larger.

Hi there, here are some ideas that helped us with my son whose diaper started leaking every night at around 2 1/2. We double up with a Pampers overnight pull up (the smallest is a little too big but we use it anyway) and then secure the pull up with a regular diaper, almost like a belt. It usually works. Mikko sleeps in his own bed with a plastic sheet underneath the bedding so it's easy to clean the next day if he does leak. The inserts didn't work - they just made the diaper a complete bulky mess. I have a whole bag of them if you want them LOL (and they look like pads - LOL more). Hope this helps. Finally, at nearly 3, my sons night time flow is slowing down a little bit and we now use 2 diapers (versus pull up and diaper).

Cheers!
