How did your husband propose to you?

  • Rating: 4.9 after 8 votes
This topic came to mind because my husband proposed to me in the monh of December. We enjoyed a romantic dinner and then he told me he had planned for a horse-drawn carriage ride through our favorite downtown area. As we approached a beautiful white horse and carriage, he knelt down on one knee and proposed. I couldn't believe it!

Your turn.

My husband proposed to me inside the Hohensalzburg Castle, overlooking the Salzburg River. It is the castle up on the hill in the movie "Sound of Music". Needless to say we've watched the movie with the kids a zillion times over the years! We are celebrating 20 years next month. I'd love to go back to that magical spot in the castle someday. :)

He didn't. We just decided to get married one day and a week later, we were married. I'll add we were living with each other for 3 years and had a 3 month old baby.

I was 39 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child. I was scheduled for a c-section in 7 days. It was Valentine's Day night. We'd just gotten a foot of snow that day.

We'd just had quasi-sex. In the dark, he says "oh, I forgot, I have 1 more present for you". He hands me a gift bag and gets out of bed to turn on the light. While I was opening the bag, he knelt in front of me. I still hadn't put it together. I opened the box and it was this gorgeous ring, so very extravagant. Then he literally said the words - will you marry me. I nearly fell off the bed. We had been together 12 YEARS.

Of course, now it's nearly 2 years later and we're still not married, but hey - it makes for a neat story LOL

Which Husband? My first husband was very romantic. It was also a very short marriage. He had Muscular Dystrophy We would only be married for three years until he heart muscle gave out , A short loving marriage.
We were shopping one day. Grocery . He was in a wheel chair. He had a an electric chair but when ever we went out he had to use the manual one , And I would push him around . But this day he took over and wheeled himself away from me. Which was id. Since his upper strengthen was limited. But, I went about shopping. When he called me to the front of the store , Near the gum ball machines . He then asked me to sit. I told him I wasn't tired, and that we should finish shopping. He asked for me to sit for a bit. So, I did . He took my hand and went into telling me , He thought he would never meet nor marry anyone who would except him , a man in a wheel chair. He then took out the ring, which he had gotten out of one of the gumball machines. It was a PLAY BOY BUNNY RING. And than asked me to marry him. I said yes with tears of joy. To this day I have that ring. A little green and tarnished.
And for the second time around. Well my husband surprised me. We were both older , in our 50's and we just talked about living together. When one day the surprise , When in the kitchen over the stove. he asked me to marry him. That was three years ago. I can say I had married , both times. My best friend. I just never thought I would ever remarry after my first husband ,
I was pretty sure there would be no other . Proven wrong.

I'm going to try to make this short because I have to pick up my princess from school.
It was February and we had been dating for 9 months. Madly in love, we knew we wanted to get married and I told him I did not want a Valentine's Day proposal. He made reservations at our favorite restaurant and gave me a rose as we were walking in. We had a great dinner and I was expecting a Valentine's Day gift. He said the rose was the gift and I thought, man this guy is cheap! But then he said "In order to appreciate the beauty of a rose, one has to study it carefully". When I looked at it more carefully I noticed a shiny diamond and thought it was an earring. When I pulled it out it was a beautiful 3 stone diamond ring and I lost it. We've been married 6 years and it's been awesome! God has been great and blessed us immensely.

Well, I liked this question because actually my daughter and I proposed to my husband. We did it on Valentine's Day about 4 yrs ago. We asked him to marry us so we can become a family and he responded (with tears in his eyes), "Nothing would make me happier". It was so terrific to feel the love we have as a family and continue with each day.

Your story should so wonderful Angela! Don't you just love love?

Teresa,

Your story is one of the most touching replies! Thank you for providing us with something so personal as your proposal. It shows the love you and your daughter shared and proposing along with your daughter only extended the love to your future husband. I'm still wiping the tears! Love truly is a blessing.

Mary,

What a romantic story! Your husband showed how much he loved you through the beauty of a rose. I'm only sorry to hear you lost the ring. May you enjoy many more years of happiness!

My grandmother died unexpectadly on Christmas eve. He insisted I open a gift from him. He had wrapped a shoe (my favorite things!) box in newspaper. Inside was a diet Coke (another fav!) and another smaller box. Inside that was an engagement ring. He told me even if I wasn't ready to say yes, I should wear it for the trip and funeral to bring my relatives some joy. On Valentines Day I sent him flowers and asked if he wanted a date to our wedding. (yes, it took me that long!) We went to the live production of Dream Girls that night and set the date.
