twitter moms: the influential moms network

How many tweets per day is too many when deciding to follow someone new on Twitter? There are people out there who look interesting, but I don't want to drown out the rest of my Twitter feeds with their activity. What's your personal rule of thumb?

I always look at their "about me" and a couple of their recent tweets before adding them. You can always un-follow someone but if you don't add them to begin with, you may miss out on some vital info they may post. Rules? Who needs rules? ;)

I just follow my guts. I don't count and if it's no fun I unfollow.
But before I follow I also check their latest tweets and their bio.

Have fun

I do also check their tweets and their bio. I use Tweetdeck which lets you group people so I do that in order to be able to keep up.

I follow anyone who interests me or I think would benefit from what I have to share. Then I sort them out using TweetDeck... One column has WAHM/SAHM, another is NEWS , another is PERSONAL...so on and so forth... I find new people to follow everyday.
I personally go through each profile that follows me. I check them out, if I feel there is a common bond I follow back. Knowledge is power... I learn so much from people I never knew existed.

Hope this helps.

When my "main" tweet interests start to get lost I go back and re-evaluate my follows. I unfollowed a couple yesterday because the tweets had become irrevelant. Sometimes I feel bad unfollowing, like I'm not being friendly, but I'm working on that!

I'm another Tweetdeck user; it really helps me not get overwhelmed. Also, you can check a person's average updates per day at http://followcost.com

I generally don't tweet more than once or twice a day, and if I have to wade through pages and pages of one person who feels the need to reply to every single tweet from every single person on their friend list (with banal stuff like "lol" or "I agree") just to find replies from the people I know in "real life", I'll de-friend them. And I usually won't friend anyone who follows over a thousand people anyway because I'm not going to make Twitter a full time job unless I can get paid for it :)

My rule of thumb is to just have fun! I love TwitterMoms! Where else would I meet so many knowledgeable, interesting, and absolutely hilarious moms in one place?
So if I see a mom that:
1. Shares the same interests
2. Is doing something interesting or unique
3. Is funny, witty, or creative
or any of the above

Then I Tweet.....That's why we're here...to meet & tweet!

I'm still trying to figure this one out. As I twitter more, I'm learning to filter out the ones that are nice to have around when I don't ahve anything to do as opposed to the ones that I interact with. Usually they send me a direct message or I notice their tweet.

I drop the ones with the consistently bad language, the mindless drivel that is just continuous (do I really need to know you are in the bathroom?)...

So as I learn, I grow and as I grow I become more discriminating.

For me, it's not about how much they tweet, its more about what they are tweeting. If I like their bio, and they've made some great comments in their tweets, I'll follow.

I read the about me, their tweets and go with my gut feeling as well.

I don't like seeing too many tweets from the same person. So it depends on how interesting it is to me. I don't like lots of advertising. I like funny, short tweets that are a little glimpse into someone elses world. Usually before I add someone I'll check out their bio and if they have a blog linked I'll check it out as well to see what kind of things they are into.
