How to you think body image and self esteem is influenced by the media in regards to girls and teens?

Okay I was troubled that my then 8 year old daughter was saying that she needed to go on a diet one day a couple of years ago. I was shocked that at her age, girls were already beginning to worry about self image and their self esteem. It really got me to thinking about today's society.
How do you think today's media/music/culture influence this new generation of teens and girls that have lower self esteem and body images?
Now look another advertisement for boy a Bratz doll, a total different portrayal and all done by the media. These are the toys that are girls are playing with and the image that they are receiving.
