My kids are too old so I was not a "slinger" so to speak. :P Am seeing a lot of offended moms on Twitter. What do you all think here? In case you missed it, here is the Motrin ad. https://www.motrin.com/index.jhtml
Here's my post about it. Did you all see the video @KatjaPresnal put together? I have both the Motrin ad and her video so you can see both. Also there's a link to her post where she has a Mr. Linky up for everyone who blogged about it.
I can't get over the flurry of activity on this. I think in the past two days on twitter, the protest has taken off. It's amazing what the power of the internet holds!
It was a marketing blunder for sure! Moms are very sensitive about their babies and their roles as mothers. We do the best we can and what got moms the most are the comments about wearing baby slings to be "fashionable" and the idea of trying to look like an "official mom." Ouch!
I wasn't a baby wearer, but I still found the ad to be in very poor taste. The worst part for me was the sarcasm in the voice. I don't believe that a baby-wearing parent look any more tired and crazy than any other new parent. Or that it makes one look like an "official mom" any more than the baby I'm carrying on my hip.
I saw the video @KatjaPresnal as well; some of the tweets she included I had seen in real time. The one that perhaps caught my eye the most was the one that said maybe this was ad genius, as they're getting a ton of people to go to their website who normally wouldn't have visited. Is bad press better than no press? I dunno.
I agree with the other comment on here. While I wasn't personally offended (although I was a babywearer), I thought the sarcastic tone of the ad was in bad taste.
