CONTEST DETAILS:

Rudest Comment About Your Parenting Style

It’s happened to all of us at some point, whether you are at the playground, school function or on a flight, someone makes a rude comment about your parenting style. They may think they are being helpful, but they are really just overstepping their bounds and making things worse! It could be “can’t you get him/her to quiet down” or “you let him/her eat that?” or “little Johnny, tell your mommy it’s cold outside and you should be wearing a hat…” as you are standing right there! There are millions of them and our friends at Care.com want to hear from you. So, they have developed a fun contest for TwitterMoms, designed around this question that all moms can all relate too:

What’s the rudest comment from a stranger you have ever gotten about your parenting style?

How it Works:
To participate in the contest, simply write a post on your blog describing the situation by which you received the rudest comment about your parenting style. How did you react? What was the comment about? Who was it from? Share your advice on how to handle such a sticky situation. Apart from that, the only requirement we ask is that your post includes at least one link to www.Care.com and one link back to this page.

To enter your blog post in the contest, simply return to this discussion page, post a comment below summarizing your blog post in a paragraph or two, and include an active link to your qualifying blog entry. That’s it! Deadline to enter is Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. PST.

All TwitterMoms can offer their readers 15% off a Care.com subscription with Promo Code: TWMOMS

PRIZES & AWARDS
• The first 15 mom bloggers to respond to the question on their own blogs will win: $10 Amazon gift card and *1 Free month subscription to Care.com
• The 5 mom bloggers who get the most comments on their blog will win: $20 Amazon gift card and *1 Free Month subscription to Care.com
• The Grand Prize winner with the Funniest post or comment (judged by the experts at Care.com) will win: $50 Amazon gift card and a free year subscription to Care.com

*Free Care.com subscriptions can be used by the blogger or can be offered by the blogger to one of their readers.

Total Prize Value: $300

Final winners will be announced March 2, 2009!

When my third baby was just a few months old, I was wearing her in the Baby Bjorn while shopping at the grocery store. An elderly woman approached me and said, "You need to turn her head, because she's going to suffocate." I was so irritated, all I could do was look at her and reply, "Well I haven't killed either of my other two children yet." I'm not normally so rude! I blame it on the sleep deprivation. ;-)

I didn't blog about this, but I thought it would be fun to participate anyway. :-)
Here's my blog about having the police called on me for child abuse-by my mother-in-law!

Now if I could just get the links in my blog to work, I'd be entered! ;-)
I blogged about strangers telling me how cruel I was for using a harness to keep my kids out of traffic and from being stolen in a store.

I bet they would be the first to holler if they had been kidnapped that I wasnt watching them good enough!

His comment about my son was "Enough Already!"

Let's just say I felt like cutting his ear too!

Let me know what you think!
From my mother, with whom I have no relationship whatsoever. She was at my brother's house and saw a photo of my twins as toddlers on their fridge. She said, "Oh whose adorable twins are these?" and my brother said they were mine. She said, "Oh, they're not that cute." And that's why I have no relationship with her.
I love the way so many of these are about breastfeeding. What is with people making comments on something our bodies were built to do?!!
My MIL asked me I thought I had a miscarriage because I nursed my daughter so long. (I got pregnant the day she turned 1 and had weaned her by the end of that month and miscarried after 7 weeks.) Like I needed to feel like this was my fault. Fortunately, I felt no guilt over that just astounded that she was so insensitive.
Here's my post, including an adorable photo of my daughter at one month old! http://table4five.net/2009/02/13/whats-the-rudest-comment-you-ever-...

My Great-Aunt Anne told my husband and I that Kaitlyn's ears "stuck out" and should be "taped to her head at night" to push them back. We were dumbstruck!
I get yelled at all the time from strangers for the behavior of my three boys. Waiting in line for ski tickets the clerk told me that my boys were being so noisy she couldn't hear herself think. She made me send them outside in the freezing cold to wait for me. I actually thought they were being more quiet than usual as they wrestled on the floor knocking down the lane separators (you know, the ones like in the airports that kids can't stay away from). Everybody else seemed to be amused, or maybe not.

I doubt that I'll write a blog post about this but the thing that infuriates me the most is when people question my decision to give my first daughter up for adoption. I knew I couldn't be a single mom at the time and I wanted to do what was best for her. Unfortunately my in laws don't comprehend that since single parenting is the norm in their family. My MIL always throws that in my face whenever she feels like it.
I've blogged this here - http://abookwormsdiary.blogspot.com/2009/02/parenting-style.html

As a parent I've had my share of comments and criticisms. In my post I recall three such instances which really bothered me. They range from bizarre comments from total strangers to those from friends and family.

Please stop by and leave your comment!
Here is my story. Great contest! Thanks Megan!

Okay....I have three children and ALL of them were colic babies! How did I get so lucky....LOL. Anyway, my husband and I tried every contraption out there to help the little ones try and get some sleep. All three loved the swing! It kept them upright so they could sleep and not choke if they got sick. Anyway, after my children were too big for the swing, it was time to get rid of it. My mom was having a yard sale so I went down to help out and sell some stuff. One of the "elder" neighbors came down and was shuffling around the yard sale when all of a sudden she stopped, staring at the baby swing. She asked me who the baby swing belonged to and I said it was mine. She then stated in a stern voice" You are a lazy mother! You should hold your baby to rock it, not put it in that contraption!". I was so stunned I got up and walked away.
