One Nice Thing Your Child Has Done in the Past Week

  • Rating: 0 after 1 vote
Hi! Over the years my daughter and I have butted heads on many issues, but was thrilled this past weekend when she was home from college for a few days. Out of the blue, she inquired if it would be okay to wash the dog. Oh, I loved this! Of course my response was "Sure!" I am still on cloud 9! ; )

You have got one heck of an amazing kid. I got all teary-eyed when I got to the end. You should be really proud.

My 14 year old was in his room throwing clothes all over, I asked what he was doing he said nothing, I said you have to pick this up he said he will, Then I heard noises in the little twos room I went to see and their clothes were being tossed, Same conversation, Then he asked what of my clothes don't fit as long as they are long sleeved and/or pants. I then asked again and got no response, just that leave me alone look. The washer started Me totally wondering what he was up to walked back up stairs to see what he was doing he was washing all the clothes. Ok fine. Then he started asking about blankets, 'Do we need this one' 'this one is old can I have it' type of questions. I let him have 3 or 4. About two hours later (once the dryer was done) He asked for my keys I handed them to him he loaded two bags of clothes and these blankets. I asked what he was doing and got You will see I need you to take me someplace in a few. Then he started making sandwiches and bagging them So I started catching on He asked if he could have a pack of juice packs and a pack of cookies. I said ok. We got in the car I asked him where and he told me where to go and explained that he seen this homeless family on the bus on the way home with a kids about the size of mine and he felt like he wanted to help them since it was getting cold outside and they had nothing. So we went to this family he got out I tried to help he asked me not to and he gave the family the stuff and chatted for a while and got in the car and off we went. He did all of this with no help aside the driving and just because he said it was the right thing to do. I don't think I have ever been so proud of him.

My oldest on his way to my house after picking up one of the other kids from HS saw a van that had spun out and hit a tree (everyone inside was okay!) and stopped to help out. Turned out it was the neighbor boy behind us and he was quite scared. So after towing him out (my son drives a big truck) after the cop gave the go ahead, he razzed him a bit, but told him in a way that ONLY older kids can 'preach' and get away with it, just HOW lucky he was and that while he is probably losing his license (our state only allows for 1 additional passenger when your a teenage driver and he had 5 other kids in the van - DOH!) at least NO ONE was hurt.

The father came over to our house wanting to say thank you to my son for his words to his son. He said that it 'hit him stronger than anything HE could have ever said'. And then told me I should be proud of having kids who stop and help others no matter what the conditions (it WAS a crappy day, sleeting, wet and they didn't hesitate to stop and get out of their nice warm truck to help) and said that his son DID have his license taken away by the cop. Sucks. BUT maybe next winter (or whenever he turns 18) he'll remember to SLOW down. He admitted he had been fooling around on the 'S' roads in the parkway, never expecting that to happen.

But he's alive. And a bit wiser for it.

My daughter has a new kid in her toddler class (my daughter is 2y/o) who still cries when her parents drop her off. So on Monday, when Delaney saw the child crying as her mom was saying goodbye, she walked over to the doll station and brought one over to her to help ease her anxiety.

My 12 yr old cleaned his room without request or nagging over the past two days! He even wants to clean off and alphabetize his bookshelves so he'll "know what books he has and doesn't have"!

My 18 yr old picked two names to shop for off the "Paw Tree" sponsored by his high school service club. He doesn't need the volunteer credits, but decided to do it "just because".

We were watching the Extreme Home Makeover special behind the scenes episode, and there was a Sear's commercial for their program that helps to get Christmas presents for children of soldier's who are overseas. When they put the website up on the screen, my 8 year old son instantly asked if we could go to the website and shop for a child.

The next day he was looking through his CD book of computer games and came across some CD's that are too young for him now. When I suggested we donate them, he was so excited he went through the rest of the CD's and I now have a small stack that he's too old for and wants to donate to a kindergarten in the area. He even went on google and did a search for kindergarten donations and told me right where we need to take them. :-)

Our son KJ made a cup of hot coca for his big brother Ben. He's been missing out because he leaves before everyone else to catch his bus. KJ insisted on making the cocoa for him before he left.
Very sweet.
