Over Vaccinating Children?

  • Rating: 4.2 after 6 votes
What are your thoughts on vaccinating children? I read an interesting book called "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations" by Stephanie Cave, M.D.

My husband and I decided early on to stop all vaccinations for our son...he's 5 now. (I believe he had about 5 or 6 before we stopped) We didnt even want him to have em in the first place but his dr kind of pushed us into it. We finally demanded shots without mercury...and she refused, so that was it.
Since then I have debated a lot about this issue and my family does pressure me on my decision...but I feel I am doing the right thing for our family, our beliefs and my son.
I feel there is so much more to be learned and right now I feel my son is just fine without them....give or take the ear infection, strep throat or cold every now and again. :)
I definately wanna check out that book though!

Hi Danielle,

Pharmceutical companies now make the vaccines without mercury or thimerosal. Finally!! It is a hard decision. You have to do what you feel is best. A mother's instinct is very strong.

I have stopped vaccinating my children and my youngest is not vaccinated at all. I believe in being an informed parent regarding this issue and weighing the pros and cons before making an educated decision. It is up to the parent to make this decision and no one should force a parent to vaccinate. Some parents will choose to selectively vaccinate, space out vaccines, or stop altogether and that is all part of the informed decision. For my family, this is what we have decided. I am not saying that I am against all vaccines because that is not the case. If there was a need for one, say my LO stepped on a rusty nail, I would certainly get her a tetanus vaccine. I breastfed all my children, we eat a well-balanced whole food diet and we are rarely sick. I feel that if parents educate themselves about this issue, they can make the decision based more on fact than emotion.

We've vaccinated our kids, not exactly on schedule. There just seem to be too many vaccines given, too soon. However, I believe it's a parent's duty to educate themselves about the vaccines that are being recommended to their kids and look into reputable sources of information before making their decision for their own child. Don't do it or not do it on hearsay and speculation, make your decision based on knowledgeable and trustworthy information, whether it be for or against vaccines for your child.

This is a good topic! Just a few weeks ago I had Hello Kittie Mama from the Bon Bon Gazette do a guest post about this on my site (http://www.fromadesperatehousewife.com/2008/10/vaccines-know-hidden...). She has such a wealth of knowledge on the subject. We stopped vaccinating our little monkey about a year ago, at three-years-old. I also see the benefits of maybe just opting out of some of the vaccines and working on a different schedule from what doctors normally recommend.

I watched a vibrant, playful, 18 month old girl change in a six week period - after a vaccination with mercury, to being diagnosed with autism. When I asked my doctor about the link between mercury & autism, she said there was none. But on my next visit there was a poster on the wall stating their vaccinations didn't contain mercury.

Another interesting author can be seen at http://www.viddler.com/explore/mercola/videos/51/ on the National Vaccination Information Center (warning - its a little dramatic at the first few minutes)

The number of vaccinations that kids today receive frightens me. I also worry that there is no end in sight to the number of vaccinations that the government keeps adding to the schedules. If the Rx companies continue to develop vaccines left and right, at what point is the government going to stop adding to the list?

I watched this documentary recently - called vaccination the hidden truth (blogged about it here http://organicyogamom.com/2008/10/19/down-the-rabbit-hole-of-vaccin...) - I found it to be a really interesting piece which talked about among many things the fact that we have modified all these diseases to be infant illnesses now instead of childhood diseases which were not as detrimental in most cases.
The documentary came out of Australia and is old now but I really found the information fascinating.

I have a friend who is a nurse who did not vaccinate her children. I think vaccinating is a personal choice and the risks have to be weighed. However, here is my two cents. My 3 year daughter just had chicken pox, a very mild case. The case was so mild because she was vaccinated. I was skeptical about getting the chicken pox vaccination and I am glad I did. It was tricky to diagnose, but she wasn't itchy or in pain. We did have to stay out of school for a week though.

MT is absolutely right. My friend, Pat Knox, had a bright, healthy, balanced baby boy who suddenly became autistic after his first DPT shot (mercury & aluminum poisoning). [Now she helps families with autistic children, and has made incredible progress with new equipment. Contact me if you want an introduction to her.]

Pat warns that many vaccine ingredients are subject to continuous replication (cancerous!) and spoke recently of her vast research. What about the SV40 monkey virus that contaminated polio vaccines .... 43% of non_Hodgkins lymphomas... Thimerisol (autism) and non-human DNA contaminants... Interesting that Pertussin vaccines (whooping cough) were introduced in 1940, and in 1943 the US had the first reported cases of "autism" and 1944 "Asgerger's."

Pat found that her son Steven has 68 TIMES the approved mercury level in his FIRST vaccine at age 6 weeks! Now, with vaccine within the first 24 hours of birth, autism rates jumped 10X the first year.

1 out of 67 children born today BECOME autistic, but it was only 1 in 150 in 1994 (per CDC) and 1/10,000 when Steven was born (about 30 years ago). The military official statistic is 1/88, but believed to be 10.4% actually.

Our children are being poisoned with 32-38 vaccines by age 2 - PRIOR TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER! The immune system is not even fully developed until age 7. Yet the poor babies have 187 micrograms of mercury by 6 months. (Compact Fluorescent has 5mg of mercury in landfills.)

my 12 yr old hasn't had any vaccinations since she was about 3 or 4?
my 19 yr old hasn't had any since he was about 11 and what happened to him was the pushing point of not doing any more for him nor my daughter. He got violently ill, had bad reaction and that was it for me.
At the time I hadn't done my research and just went with the flow of mainstream doctors.
However, now we have waivers for school and do not do vaccines nor dr's.
And haven't had the need for dr's, both are healthy normal children (young man, preteen, whatever you want to call them)
no issues, no health probs, no meds, no dr's
it works for us!
I myself haven't been to a dr other than to give birth 12 & 19 yrs ago otherwise haven't been to one for over 25 yrs and there's nothing wrong with me. Compliments of my lifestyle and trusting in God for any healing I've needed.
So, for us we do not do vaccinations....

I believe in vaccines. They still have a LONG way to go before they are better. but they are better than they used to be in my opinion!

I still get a tetnus shot. I recently had titers done and I'm still well vaccinated against everything!

I don't believe in over vaccinating and with my son we have pushed his vaccine dates back a bit. My dr is very good with vaccines and saying what he needs and doesn't NEED. I'm thankful to have found a fantastic doctor!!!

I'm the same with my pets. The rabies vaccine will last a very long time. it does NOT need to be done every year. So I have stopped giving my pets vaccines and if a complaint arises, we will do titers showing they have the antibodies in their systems.

I had the chicken pox vaccine and thank heavens I did because I didn't get chicken pox till I was just starting highschool (I think it was around there! or just before HS lol) and it wasn't as bad due to the vaccine.

But everyone has their own beliefs and I respect that...now if only all doctors respected that too...
The one thing I really dislike, is all the vaccines combined into ONE shot. Yes it's less traumatic for the child. But what are the side effects of combined vaccines in a child?? My cats cannot take it. They both were deathly ill, and one spent a long time in the vet hospital due to a bad reaction and the vet finally told us to take him home to spend his last hours with us. Thankfully he pulled thru. But who's to say that a reaction like that won't happen to a child with all the combo vaccines. I preferred them not in combos!! the dr assured me that the combos my son is getting is split up enough that he shouldn't have a bad reaction to them. Last time he had 2 needles. And he goes back in december for more.

I can go on forever ;) But I'm glad we have doctors out there who respect our wishes to be against or for vaccines...and that science continues to better the vaccine.

I have not vaccinated my children since the eldest of the five of them was diagnosed with autism. As much as the medical profession says there is no connection, I am not convinced. Since my kids are genetically at risk for autism, I avoid all environmental triggers.

I wouldn't touch the flu shot with a 10 foot pole since it has thermisol (mercury) in it. I don't believe there is any safe amount of mercury that should be injected into children.

It's all about choice and I think the real problem is that the medical profession doesn't really inform parents that they have a choice in whether or not to vaccinate.
