Should gated communities be shut on Halloween?

Right now we still have alot of construction going on so the gates at our subdivision don't close until 6pm.
I am not sure if they will lock them at regular times or leave them open because of Halloween.

Do you feel gated communities should stay shut during Trick or Treat hours? Why or Why not?

My opinion, I say, "Yes". It's not because i worry about kids from other areas coming in my subdivision by any means, it's grown ups that shouldn't be there. I walk with my kids, but still.

Safety on Halloween is so important.

What are your thoughts?

That's really tough, since the gated communities are really nice and usually a lot of people there participate. But I do agree with you that they made them GATED for specific reasons, and a lot of additional traffic would be one of those reasons. If I had a vote on it, I would rather them stay shut so that those in the community can enjoy walking around in their own neighborhood together.

I agree, the kid's safety is the most important on Halloween and for that reason I would vote Yes.

I am glad to know I am not the only one that feels this way. I am not trying to keep kiddos out, just people that shouldn't be there...you know the type I mean. Halloween can bring out some spooky folks, LOL THey know alot of kids will be out on their own.

I just saw places listed on craigslist as to certain areas people should go and they added, the bad part is that alot of them are gated, but if you can get in, these are the good places to go.

WHAT!!!

Growing up, we just always stayed in our area. I thought the point was to go around and see all your neighbors dressed up and visit with everyone and the kids get candy, of course, but get to play, etc...

On the other hand, I can imagine if some areas weren't passing out any candy, kids might be disappointed and I wouldn't want a child to go thru that either, no matter where they live.

It's a tough one, that's for sure.

I totally agree. When I was growing up (not so long ago even still), we only stayed in our own neighborhoods and friends' neighborhoods. Once or twice we went to the neighborhoods of a few teachers we were friends with, but other than that, stayed in our own areas.

I know SOME gated communities around the areas will let others in, but ONLY if you know someone living there. And they will usually call that person to make sure. Anyone else can't get in.

We stayed in our neighborhood when I was little and now do the same with our kds. It's so nice to go to people's homes that you know!

Hmmm... interesting question. Maybe I don't even know enough about gated communities, but what are the usual reasons that they are gated? Are the gates ever open or do you always have to have clearance to go through?

I felt guilty last year taking our kids into town trick-or-treating (we live on a farm) even though we knew almost everyone whose house we went to. But when we went to our neighbor across the road, she was caught off-guard--she said she hadn't had trick-or-treaters in 25+ years! (I haven't had one in the 10 years we've lived here.)

They are supposed to always be shut, however, there is still building going on in my area so they are usually open until 6 or 7pm to allow construction workers in/out.

I found out an hour ago they will be shut at 5 today because of Halloween.

We do pay extra with our HOA for a gated community, and things like that. Gates do keep 'extra' traffic from driving thru your neighborhood too which is nice while you are out with your family, etc...

In your situation being on a farm, it would be the obvious thing to do, go into town. I would think that would be what anyone would do living on a farm or out in an area where there weren't other homes.

I even understand going into the subdivisions right beside your house if you live in a small area and need more homes to visit to continue having fun. But, going all the way across town. Basically, from the South side to the North Side. Gimme a break.

My neighbor already spent $30 on candy because she didn't know if the gates would be closed, LOL
You at least want to have candy still when your neighbor kids come around. :)

WOW! We had an incredible turn out. I know the gates were closed and we had more kids than I have ever seen. We had a blast.
LOL, we bought 5 bags of the largest JUMBO bags of candy you can buy and we hardly had anything left.

My kids had a blast.

I hope all of you had an awesome time too.

Now, to get ready for Thanksgiving. YUMMY!!!
