Single subject days for homeschooling

How do you feel about single subject days for home schooling?
My 6th grade son and I are trying it this week and today we covered History. Amazing how much one can cover in two and a half hours! It was wonderful. We got more in depth and my son actually asked questions that we had to look up elsewhere. I feel he was much more engaged with a large dose of one subject than a small dose of many subjects.
Any thoughts on this?
